Relationship of the centric relation position of condyle between self-controlled retruded approach and bimanual manipulation

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship of the centric relation position of condyle between self-controlled retruded approach and bimanual manipulation so as to provide theoretical reference for clinical treatment.Methods Fifteen healthy young volunteers were selected.Centric relation position was guided through self-controlled retruded approach and bimanual manipulation method.Track of condylar kinematic center were recorded using mandibular movement trace recording system.The movement direction compared to intercuspal position(ICP) condylar point was investigated.The distance between condylar point of centric relation position(CRP) and ICP were measured.Results Except one volunteer's condylar point movement direction of CRP was towards inferior and posterior,other CRP condylar points were posterior-superior to ICP condylar points.The condylar point movement distance from ICP to CRP guided through self-controlled and bimanual manipulation method were (0.67 ± 0.22),(0.73 ± 0.25) mm respectively.There was no statistical significance between two methods (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions CRP condylar position guided either by self-controlled approach or bimanual manipulation is approximately same.
