Research progress on non-surgical therapy for severe periodontitis

Abstract:Patients with severe periodontitis usually need non-surgical periodontal therapy, periodontal surgery and multidisciplinary therapy,due to severe alveolar bone destruction and attachment loss together with several concomitant lesions. However, non-surgical therapy is still the most fundamental, effective and important part. Although traditional mechanical treatment presents certain limita-tions,additional means with some unique advantages have been increasingly applied to the clinical manipulation,such as air polishing, periodontal endoscope,medication and laser,etc. Research progress on non-surgical therapy for severe periodontitis will be reviewed in the article.
