Abstract:The microorganisms in dental plaque and their productions are initial factors for periodontal disease. Recent studies have revealed that nearly 30 kinds of microorganisms are related with the pathogenesis and development of periodontal disease, among which the whole genome sequence of Haemophilus actinomycetemcomitans, Tannerella forsythia, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Fusobacterium nucleatum and Treponema denticola have been obtained. For the research of periodontal therapy, not only periodontal ligament cells and bone marrow stromal cells, but also adipose tissue-derived stromal cells and gene transfection cells are used as seeding cells in periodontal tissue engineering. There are rich growth factors in platelet-rich plasma, which are of great benefit to periodontal regeneration. It has been verified by a number of studies that enamel matrix proteins can promote periodontal regeneration and the tissue structure and function resemble the normal periodontal tissues. Adjunctive therapy is another important means for periodontal disease. It has been found that low-dose doxycycline and chemically-modified tetracyclines can ease the host reaction to periodontal inflamation, inhibit the activity of collagenase and promote the synthesis of collagen.In addition,some Chinese medicinal compound for invigo-rating Kidney and clearing Fire can relieve periodontal inflammation, adjust the immune function of host, promote the proliferation of bone marrow stromal cells and facilitate the differentiation of them into osteoblasts. However, it will be a long time and needs further research to explore the precise mechanism of pathogenisis and obtain the real regenerated periodontal tissues.
