Discussion of surgical skills in cataract patients with true exfoliation of the lens capsule

Abstract:Objective To prevent the occurrence of intraoperative and postoperative complications and provide some suggestions for clinical works via investigating the operation skill for cataract patients with true exfoliation.Methods A perspective study was performed on cataract patients associated with true exfoliation who received cataract surgery during June 2014 to December 2016.Seven(12 eyes) cataract patients associated with true exfoliation were assigned to two groups,6 eyes for group A and 6 eyes for group B,and the average age of patients were over 80 years old (81.14 ± 0.90).Four patients (6 eyes) with common cataract were assigned to group C,and the average age of patients were also over 80 years old (81.25 ± 1.50).The surgical method was phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.Group A was treated using twice capsulorhexis technique,group B was treated using continuous circular capsulorhexis technique after injecting viscoelastic agent,and group C was treatent using continuous circular capsulorhexis technique.The pre-and postoperative visual acuity,intraocular pressure and other indexes were analyzed.Results There was no significant difference between three groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Both twice capsulorhexis technique and continuous circular capsulorhexis technique after injecting viscoelastic agent could achieve good and safe effect in cataract patients with true exfoliation.
