Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of ultra-short wave with iontophoresis (group A) and electric stimulation with iontophoresis (group B) for traumatic facial nerve injury. Methods Thirty-nine patients with traumatic facial nerve injury were studied. The following indexes were observed: ①Quantitive facial nerve estimate;②electroneurography;③visual assessment. After one year follow-up, the outcomes were analyzed with statistical methods. Results Young men were more easily subject to traumatic facial nerve injury. The most common injury was knife trauma, followed by automobile accidents. The degree of injuries often was moderate or severe; electric stimulation with iontophoresis and ultra-short wave with iontophoresis can both facilitate the facial nerve regeneration with minor or moderate injuries. However, the former recovered earlier than the latter; for the severe facial nerve injury, the recovery rates of group A and group B were both higher than the control group, the former two groups had no use in decreasing the complications. Conclusion Both electric stimulation with iontophoresis and ultra-short wave with iontophoresis can facilitate the facial nerve regeneration, but they have no use in decreasing the complications.
