Abstract:Objective To investigate the morphological features of submacular choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in pathologic myopia (PM) using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA).Design Case series.Participants 23 patients (25 eyes) of PM with submacular CNV.Methods 23 patients of PM were performed with OCT and FFA.Photographs of OCT were analyzed and compared with that of FFA.Main Outcome Measures Morphological feature of submacular CNV imaged on OCT and FFA.Results Using OCT,18 eyes (72%) were found CNV appeared as a fusiform or round mass, highly or moderately reflective, protruding from retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) to the subsensory retinal space. In 7 eyes (28%),CNV appeared as a highly irregular reflectivity at the level of RPE and choriocapillaris.9 eyes were combined with hemorrhagic pigment epithelium detachment (PED),6 eyes with epiretinal membrane(ERM),2 eyes with macular hole and 15 eyes with sensory retina edema and thickening.Early phase photos of FFA showed round or irregular leakage of fluorescein in macular in 19 eyes.Blockage and or visibility of fluorescein were found in 6 eyes. Conclusions OCT shows CNV in PM as a highly or moderately reflective, round or fusiform mass protruding from RPE to the subsensory retinal space, the range of CNV is limited and combining with hemorrhagic PED.
