Analysis of injuries and diseases of the personnel boarding on the "Xuelong 2" polar scientific expedition ship

Abstract:Objective:To summarize and analyze the characteristics of the injuries and diseases of the personnel boarding on the polar scientific expedition ship, and to put forward targeted prevention and treatment suggestions, so as to improve the medical care for polar scientific expedition.Methods:The medical records of the 238members in 36 th Chinese Antarctic Expedition Team boarding on " Xuelong 2" polar scientific expedition ship during the voyage were collected. The number of clinical visits and the composition ratio, the number of injuries and disease cases and the percentage among all the injuries and diseases, and the number of injuries and disease cases of each physical system and the percentage among all of the injuries and diseases of all physical systems were counted. The possible inducing factors of the common injuries and diseases were analyzed. Results:During the 198-day voyage, 138 out of the 238 research team members received medical treatments for injuries and diseases, accounting for 58.0%; 276 persons/times (not including return visits) were treated. The top ten injuries and diseases were soft tissue injury, pharyngitis, gingivitis, upper respiratory tract infection, insomnia, eye fatigue, seasickness, hypertension, skin injury, and gastritis. In terms of different physical systems and specialties, the top ten injuries and diseases were: ear, nose, and throat diseases, trauma and orthopedic diseases, digestive system diseases, stomatological diseases, ophthalmic diseases, respiratory diseases, dermatological diseases, neuropsychological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic and endocrine diseases.Conclusion:In order to reduce the occurrence of injuries and diseases of the research team members boarding on the polar scientific expedition ship, the following measures should be taken and improved: safety and health education, implementation of standard operation procedures, appropriate duty arrangement, adjustment of ventilation and humidity, logistic supply, dietary structure, leisure life, correction of bad behavior, living environment, and skill training of onboard doctors.
