Abstract:Objective To investigate the change of brain motor functional connectivity in patients with cervical spondylotic my-elopathy (CSM)with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)at resting-state.Methods 21 patients with CSM and 21 healthy volunteers (age, gender and level of education matched)were underwent conventional MRI and resting-state fMRI scans.Functional MRI data were preprocessed using Data Processing Assistant for resting-state fMRI (DPARSF)toolkit in MATLAB platform. For each subject, the mean low-frequency fMRI signal (time course)of bilateral precentral gyrus was extract, and the Pearson correlation coefficient between the time course of bilateral precentral gyrus and that of each voxel in the whole brain was computed and mapping its functional connectivity (FC)pattern.Next, group difference between the CSM and healthy volunteers was compared. Results Compared with healthy controls, bilateral precentral gyrus in patients with CSM exhibited reduced FC with left cerebellum anterior lobe, but increased FC with left paracentral lobule. However, there were no significant correlations between the JOA scores,NDI scores and abnormally FC of bilateral precentral gyrus in CSM group (P >0.05).Conclusion CSM patients show an altered func-tional connectivity between precentral gyrus and cerebellum or paracentral lobule, indicative of cortical reorganization or dysfunction.
