Hemolymphangioma of the Spleen:CT Features and Pathological Correlation

Abstract:Objective Our goal was to elucidate the CT features of hemolymphangioma of the spleen and correlate with the pathological findings.Methods CT findings and clinical data of 12 patients with hemolymphangioma of the spleen were reviewed and compared with pathological findings.Results Multiple lesions in the spleen were detected in 8 cases,solitary lesions in 3 cases and 2 lesions in 1 case.Calcification each septa were detected in 4 cases.Cystic lesions were observed in 4 cases,solid lesions in 3 cases,cystic-solid lesions in 3 cases,mixed cystic and solid lesions in 2 cases.Hemolymphangioma with mainly cystic lesions showed no enchancement on contrast-enhanced CT and was had more dilated lymphatic vessels on pathological studies,while hemolymphangioma with mainly solid lesions showed mild enhancement and was had more blood vessels on pathological studies.Conclusion Hemolymphangioma of the spleen can be cystic,solid,cystic-solid or mixed,with or without calcification and septum.The enchancement pattern of the tumor is highly related to its pathological characteristics.Both the pathological and immunohistochemical examinations determine the diagnosis of the disease.
