Abstract:Radioisotopes play more important role in the field of medicine along with the development of national economy as well as extensive application of radiation devices.Therefore,Chinese government has been keeping on working hard on relative laws and regulations about radiation protection.The installation of protective equipment with high technique for operation spots and training and licensing for qualified staff are necessary.Peking University Health Science Center took efficient measure to dispose the useless radiation sources,and paved safer way for teaching and scientific research.
3-D Radiation Field Reconstruction for a Facility With Multiple Radioactive Sources

Abstract:Abstract The radiation field measurement and surveying play important roles in optimizing and planning operation work in the radioactive area. In this work, a 3-D radiation field reconstruction method is applied to reconstruct a 3-D radiation field of a facility with two radioactive drums and a shielding, not limited to the existing methods under two-dimensional grids. A numerical scheme of the method is introduced. Monte Carlo simulation of the gamma radiation field was performed to be an original field so that the reconstruction results can be verified. Random and regular sampling ways are taken into consideration while the sampling rates are kept at 4.12%. Quantitative evaluation of the results evaluates MSE (mean relative error) and MRE (mean squared error), MRE is kept at less than 4%, which shows a good reconstruction accuracy of the method in almost all 3D space. The work in this paper has good reference value for applications such as radiation field detection, inversion, and reconstruction, operations under radioactive environments like nuclear waste decommissioning, and nuclear power radiation modeling.

Abstract:[Objective]To understand the occupational hazards related to the radiotherapy place reconstruction and device renewal,determine the reasonable design of radiation protection. [Methods]A radiotherapy place to be reconstructed and a Truebeam accelerator,a Clinac accelerator,a192 Ir brachytherapy device to be installed in People's Hospital of Beijing University were enrolled as the research objects. The shielding levels of radiotherapy place were checked according to the national and international technical standards,such as GBZ / T 201. 1-2007,GBZ 121-2002,NCRP No. 151 and IAEA No. 47,to identify the possible occupational hazards,and draw up the design project of the radiotherapy place protective shield and safety facility. [Results]The occupational hazards to be protected in the radiotherapy place were resulted from the penetrative radiation of treatment equipment and the harmful gases induced by radiation. Based on keeping the original shield of radiotherapy place,the design projects of local shield and protection reconstruction were initially worked out in terms of the protective properties and the setting requirements of accelerator and brachytherapy device. Following the design project,the periphery radiation level of the radiotherapy place were estimated and they were less than the control value of dose rate,the annual effective dose received by radiotherapy staff from the corresponding concerned positions was lower than 2. 0 m Sv,and the annual effective dose received by the public was lower than 0. 1 m Sv. Ventilation design of the place reached the ventilation rate issued on the national standard,and the safety protection facilities met the control requirements to prevent potential exposure. [Conclusion]If the partial shielding reconstruction is performed on the basis of original radiotherapy place,either some space and money can be saved effectively,or better protection of occupation hazards can be accompanied confidently,but some attention should be paid on the problem of local shielding optimization.

Abstract:[Objective]To prevent the potential radioactive hazards for protection of medical market security and life and health benefits of people,and further construct safe and orderly environment for radiation treatment.[Methods]On-site test and inspection were adopted to randomly inspect on workplace of radiation treatment of private and individual institution above first class with higher attendance in a district of Shanghai City,as well as the radiation protection facilities.[Results]Of 18 inspected institutions,radioprotection levels met the national standards,and the treatment security was managed well.[Conclusion]The person in charge of the radiation treatment institution should pay much attention to radiation treatment security,earnestly carry out the work of checking and correcting themselves,strengthen radiological protection awareness to effectively prevent the occurrence of radiological hazards.

Abstract:The quality of radiation protection is critically influenced by the availability of accurate information and its efficient management.It consists of many information components.There may be information related to the patient,to doctors(radiation oncologists,radiological physicists,technologists,etc.),and to equipment(diagnostic,planning,treatment,etc.).These different category and methods must be integrated.Rational use of radiological equipment decreases radiation exposure and gains time,whereas thoughtless use increases radiation exposure without real benefit.A comprehensive management system is essential for efficient storage and application of the enormous amounts of protection information.

Abstract:Tritium is the most common radionuclide released into the environment because of the development of the nuclear industry.The amount of tritium increases substantially from the spent fuel reprocessing plant and fusion reactor,potentially posing radiation risks to the environment and public health.The environmental behaviors of multi-form tritium are extremely complex and easily influenced by external factors.An assessment system must be developed to accurately assess environmental tritium levels and the effects of radiation on the public.This study summarized tritium's basic characteristics,tritium characteristics in various facilities,and tritium environmental migration characteristics.In addition,the progress of the international tritium environmental radiation assessment systems was discussed here.Considering China's rapid development in advanced nuclear power and reprocessing technologies,research proposals were made upon three areas:migration and transformation rule of multi-form tritium in a multimedia environment,development and validation of a Chinese tritium environmental radiation assessment system,and establishment of a standard system for tritium radiation environmental assessment.

Abstract:In order to promote the sustainable development of nuclear technology in scientific research field in China ,this article presents safety management measures of radioactive isotopes ,radioactive source ,60 Co γradiation setup in colleges and universities and research organizations based on related laws and characteristics of using and managing these radioactive substances in colleges and universities and research organizations ,and experiences of managing these radioactive substances in Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University . Abstract:Nuclear accidents might do great harm to the safety and health of human beings and the environment.In order to control the spread of radioactive matter,we should place enough emphasis on effective treatment and disposal of radioactive wastewater.This article summarized the treatment experience of Chernobyl nuclear explosion and Fukushima nuclear leakage in Japan,listed some effective treatment processes recommended by USEPA and UKHPA,and reviewed the research progress of adsorption,ion exchange,membrane separation and combined processes,which might offer China some reference in the establishment and improvement of radioactive wastewater treatment and disposal after nuclear accident.

Abstract:Reconstructing nuclear radiation field is essential for a safe and efficient treatment strategy, especially when a nuclear facility fails and there is a need to go inside. Since prior radiation source information may not be accurate in the abnormal situation, this paper proposes a new equivalent radiation source method, which equates the radiation effect produced by the unknown real radiation sources. A limited number of detection points can be planned to build the equivalent source model, which helps deal with the problems of limited coverage of radiation detection points and improves the detection efficiency. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulations of different obstacles and different source distributions. The feasibility is experimentally tested by detecting and reconstructing the radiation field around a nuclear irradiation facility using a nuclear detection robot. In addition, the influence of the parameters is also analyzed to guide the practical usage of the proposed method.

Abstract:This study comprehensive evaluates radiation distribution and waste characterization during the decommissioning of the TRR Reactor Vessel. Multiple radiation surveys provide valuable data on dose rates at various positions within the vessel, utilizing thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) and ionization chamber detectors for a comprehensive understanding of the radiation environment. Radionuclide analyses of experiment tubes and the Bio-shield enhance insights into radioactive activation, identifying Co-60 as the primary radionuclide. This information is crucial for proper management and disposal of radioactive waste during decommissioning. Overall, these surveys, radionuclide analyses, and estimations significantly contribute to the safe and efficient decommissioning of the TRR Reactor Vessel, aiding in identifying radiation hotspots, understanding radioactive activation, and developing effective waste management strategies and TRR internal components dismantling plan.

Abstract:Objective Mobile linear accelerator for intra-operative radiation therapy is the new technology for the cancer treatment.Methods In the extremity radiation condition,0° and 45° directions,run the accelerator,measured the radiation level around the operating room.Results The radiation level rised sharply when the accelerator was runnning,the max radiation level was 60 iSv/h.Conclusion The paper introduce the reconstruction of the machine room and environment assessment of acceptance testing for Mobile Linear Accelerator Intra-operative Radiation Therapy Mobetron 2000.And we will setup the basical quality assurance for the clinic.

Abstract:The medical application of ionizing radiation has the longest history,the most extensive uses and the strongest effect among the multiple applications of ionizing radiation technology.With the development of diagnostic radiology and radiotherapy,for instances,the radiology,the interventional radiology,the nuclear medicine,and the radiation oncology;the infrastructures and teambuilding of medical physics in China has been becoming more and more important and urgent.Fortunately,people in relevant fields have already recognized this situation and made lots of progresses in the recent years,for example,the 221(st) Xiangshan Science Conference took "The Development of Medical Physics" as its main topic in 2004;in recent years,a series of regulations and national standards regarding to the quality assurance and radiological protection of medical exposure and the teambuilding of the relevant departments in hospital have been successively issued;the subject of Medical Physics was opened as both undergraduate and graduated courses in more and more universities(Tsinghua University,Peking University etc);the Committee on Medical Physics was enrolled as a new member of the Chinese Physical Society.Modern medical physics should include 4 parts,medical imaging physics,nuclear medicine physics,radiation oncology physics,and health physics.Protection against ionizing radiation needs to fully cover the development of medical physics,which includes the protection against ianizing radiation in medical uses.This article emphasizes the improvement of the ionizing radiation protection in medical uses,for marking of 30(th) anniversary of the Journal of Radiation Protection.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the physics technique and quality assurance (QA) during radiotherapy in the institutions from the East Guangdong province,aiming to provide reference for the construction of radiotherapy discipline and rational allocation of resources in the primary hospitals from the eastern Guangdong province.Methods From March 15 to May 20,2016,the general conditions,radiotherapy equipment,available technique and quality assurance (QA) in the medical institutions from eastern Guangdong were investigated and analyzed by online combined with on-spot surgery.Results There were 8 institutions which provided radiotherapy with 966 ward beds,a daily capacity of 632 patients and 222 radiotherapy practitioners.Radiotherapy equipment included 12 linear accelerators,5 after-loading devices,1γ-knife,8 CT simulators and 9 radiotherapy planning systems.Five institutions performed IMRT/VMAT,IGRT and ART.Dose verification was performed before precision radiotherapy delivery in all institutions except for 1 center.QA procedures were missing for the linear accelerators,CT simulators and after-loading devices.Short-term advanced studies and hand-by-hand teaching were the main approaches for staff professional training.Conclusions The resource allocation for radiotherapy in the medical centers from the eastern Guangdong province is scarce.The technique and QC levels greatly differ among different institutions.Standard QA protocols are urgently to be established and implemented.Extensive attentions should be paid to the the professional training for technicians.
