Comparison of Microvessels Between Primary Foci and Lymph Node Metastasis in Ductal Breast Carcinoma

Abstract:Objective To compare the microvessel density (MVD) and the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), CD44V 6 and CD34 in ductal breast carcinoma between primary tumor and lymph node metastasis for researching the mechanism of metastasis and the corresponding reaction of body. Methods The expressions of CD34, VEGF, and CD44V 6 were detected and analyzed in 30 cases of breast cancer with lymph node involvement (LN +) and 8 cases of breast cancer without lymph node involvement (LN -) by immunohistochemical technique. Results Higher MVD was observed in the primary lesions than in the metastatic foci (P0.05), and the expressions of VEGF were not significantly different between these two positions. There was a positive correlation between the expressions of VEGF and MVD in the primary tumor, and there was not a correlation between the expressions of VEGF and MVD in the metastatic foci in the lymph nodes. The expressions of CD44V 6 were not significantly different between primary lesions and metastatic foci. The expressions of VEGF, CD34 and CD44V 6 in the LN + primary lesions were higher than those in the LN - lesions (P0.05). Conclusion The ability of angiogenesis between primary lesions of ductal breast carcinoma and its corresponding metastatic foci in the lymph nodes are different. Some elements in the metastatic foci can suppress the ability of angiogenesis.
