Abstract:ObjectiveTo observe the effects of retrograde cerebral perfusion of oxygenated red blood cells on the rat brain after deep hypothermic circulation arrest.MethodsThirty-six SD rats were divided into three groups: sham operation group(sham op, n=12), deep hypothermic circulation arrest alone group(DHCA, n=12) and (retrograde) cerebral perfusion of oxygenated red blood cells group(DHCArcp, n=12). After set up of the model of DHCA(18 ,90 min) the brains were dissected and the pathological changes were examined by the light microscope and electron microscope, the wet/dry ratio of the brain was recorded at the same time.ResultsLight microscopy and electron microscopy revealed that the injury of brain in DHCArcp group was less than DHCA group, but the wet/dry ratio of the brain had significant difference between the groups.ConclusionRetrograde cerebral perfusion of oxygenated red blood cells does have protective effect and does not result in brain edema after DHCA.
