Abstract:Objective:To investigate the expression and clinical significance of transforming growth factor beta receptor type Ⅱ (TGFBR2) in cervical carcinoma and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).Methods:Thirteen cases of chronic cervicitis,102 cases of CIN and 167 cases of cervical cancer were accumulated and four tissue microarrays were made. The expression of TGFBR2 protein was detected by immunohistochemical staining in these tissue microarrays. Results:The expression of TGFBR2 in chronic cervicitis,CIN and cervical carcinoma was 45.5 % (5/11),20.6 % (20/97),3.0%(5/164),respectively,with a significant difference between them(P<0.05).The expression of TGFBR2 in cervical carcinoma was closely related to the tumor stage, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis. The patients with low TGFBR2 expression had a relative late tumor stage, more invasion depth and with lymph node metastasis, with a significant difference (P<0.05).Among the 164 followed-up cervical carcinoma patients, the TGFBR2 positive and TGFBR2 negative cases had an five-year survival rate of 72.4% and 69.2%,respectively,with a significant difference between them(P<0.05).The multivariate analysis showed that TGFBR2 expression and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors.Conclusion:TGFBR2 proteins may play important roles in the occurrence and development of cervical carcinoma, and could be served as tumor therapy targets and predictors of prognosis in cervical cancer.
