Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical features of vertebrobasilar ischemia(VBI). Methods:To analyze the clinical findings, accessory examination, treatment and outcome of 70 patients with VBI. Results: VBI occurred more often in patients aged between 40and 60 with a sudden onset and time course ranging from 1 day to 20 years. Abrupt change ofthe head and/or body position was the main predisposing cause. Cervical hyperplasia was thechief pathogenic factor. Examinations of hemodynamics and neuroelectrophysiology greatly improved the rate of clinical diagnosis. Blood biochemical tests and imaging examination helpedthe pathogenetic diagnosis and guided the treatment. Conclusion :VBI is caused by insufficiency or non-compensation of blood supply caused by various factors, and often induced by abruptchange of the head and body position. It responds well to treatment. Prevention is a key to treat-ment.
