Abstract:Objective:To explore the action of cell factors in the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis (LN). Methods:The interleukin-6 (IL-6) activity in serum and urine in the LN active group, remissive group and the normal control group were measured by using the IL-6 dependent cell line KD83. Results:The result showed that serum and urine IL-6 activity in the LN active group was significantly higher than that of the LN remissive group and the normal control group (P0.01). There is no significant difference on IL-6 activity in serum and urine between the LN remissive group and the normal control group (P0.05). The IL-6 activity in serum and urine of the active LN patients was positively correlated with the level of ESR (r=0.683 0 and r=0.576 7, P0.05) and was not correlated with the level of C3, ANA and anti-dsDNA antibody in serum. The IL-6 activity in serum of the active LN patients is positively correlated with the level of IgG in serum (r=0.835 0, P0.05), and is negatively correlated with the level of C4 in serum (r=-0.598 0, P0.05). Conclusion:IL-6 activity increased in serum and urine of active LN patients may play a role in the pathogenesis of LN, and it suggests that the measurement of IL-6 activity in serum and urine be a helpful indicator in monitoring the disease activity of LN.
