Treatment of acute diabetic gastric motility dysfunction

Abstract:Objective　To study the treatment for diabetic patient with acute gastric motility dysfunction. Methods Retrospective analysis of management was performed on 14 diabetes mellitus patients, who complicated with acute gastric dilation caused by acute gastric motility dysfunction. Results 13 patients recovered their gastric motility function by conservative therapy, consisted of nasogastrointestinal suction, fluid volume expansion, maintaining water-electrolyte and acid-base balance, insulin therapy and anti-infection. One patient died of ketoacidosis. Conclusion Non-surgical treatment is suitable for diabetes mellitus patient complicated by acute gastric dynamic dysfunction. Acute gastric dilation followed ketoacidosis should be differentiated from acute surgical abdominal pain to avoid unnecessary laparotomy.
