Inhibitory effects of garlic extract on proliferation of cultured vascular smooth muscle cells induced by angiotension Ⅱ

Abstract:[Objective] To investigate the inhibitory effects of garlic extract on proliferation of cultured vascular smooth muscle cell induced by angiotension II(Ang II). [Methods] The rabbit vascular smooth muscle cells were cultured and the inhibitory effect of garlic extract on DNA synthesis in vascular smooth muscle cells stimulated by Ang II was assayed at different time and different concentration by using 3H-TdR incorporation in vitro. [Results] Ang II could significantly promote DNA synthesis of quiescent rabbit vascular smooth muscle cells with a maximal response time at 36 h. Garlic extract could significantly inhibit DNA synthesis of vascular smooth muscle cells in a dose-dependent manner, with a maximal response at a concentration of 10.00 g/L and at 24 h that the inhibitory rate was 13.46%. [Conclusion] Garlic extract could significantly inhibit DNA synthesis of ribbit vascular smooth muscle cells induced by Ang II and in a dose and time dependent manner.
