Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features of patients with relapsing polychondritis (RP) and ocular involvement, as to improve the doctors’ understanding of this condition.Method The clinical data of 40 RP (37.7%) patients combined with ocular involvement, who were hospitalized in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2005 to June 2012, were retrospectively analyzed.Result These 40 subjects accounted for 37.7% of all RP patients (40/106), including 24 males and 16 females (M/F:3/2) with mean age of (41.8±16.1) years old and mean disease duration of 20.3 months. 12 cases (30%) had unilateral involvement and 28 cases (70%) had bilateral involvement. Conjunctivitis 30%, scleritis (27.5%) and uveitis (22.5%) were predominant ocular manifestations and vision decreases were caused in 10 patients (25%).ConclusionAs an important feature of RP, ocular involvement was very common, especially bilateral involvement. Conjunctivitis, scleritis and uveitis were predominant ocular manifestations and sometimes resulted in vision decrease.
