Analysis on the characteristics of clinical and endoscopic ultrasonography of left-side-portal hypertension

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical presentation and endoscopic ultrasonography ( EUS) features of left-side-portal hypertension(LSPH).Methods Retrospectively,clinical materials of 13 patients with LSPHA were collected to summarize its clinical presentation , and analyze pathogenisis etiology and EUS features .Results The first symptom of the 13 enrolled patients were mainly epigastric distress,hematemesis,and melena.Pancreatic disease was the leading cause of LSPH:2 cases of chronic pancreatitis ,2 cases of chronic pancreatitis combined with pancreatic pseudocyst ,6 cases of pancreatic tumor ,1 case of retroperitoneal neoplasms ,and 2 cases of unknown cause .Isolated fundal varices were revealed by EUS in 11 cases.Conclusion LSPH has various etiologies , but pancreatic disease is the most common cause .Isolated fundal varice is one of the characteristic features of LSPH .EUS can not only identify lesions and adjacent structures ,but also perform qualitatively diagnosis when guided with fine needle aspiration ,indicating its value in the diagnosis of LSPH.
