Discussion on Assessment of Humanistic Skills in China’s National Medical Licensing Examination

Abstract:Physicians’ humanistic skills play a critical role in improving doctor‐patient relationship and the quality of medical services .Assessment of physicians’ humanistic skills is one of the core components of medical licensing examinations in the United Kingdom and the United States .It mainly relates to three domains ,namely communication ,professionalism , and interpersonal relationship with patients .Evaluation methods used or proposed for this purpose include standardized patient ,video or web‐based assessment .Effective assessment of humanistic skills should be added to China ’s national medical licensing examination in order to facilitate selection of qualified physician ,improvement of medical service quality , and medical education reform .In pushing forward this work ,it was suggested to take the current status of medical education into account ,make use of international experiences ,and give priority to assessment of communication skills .
