Expressions and clinical significance of β-catenin and APC protein in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expressions and clinical significance of β-catenin and APC protein in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma .Methods Immunohistochemical EnVision method was used to detect the expressions of β-catenin and APC protein in normal ovarian tissues (group A ,24 cases) ,serous cystadenoma (group B ,44 cases) ,borderline serous cystadenoma(group C ,46 cases) and ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma (group D ,50 cases) .The relationship of β-catenin and APC protein expressions in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma and its pathological grading and staging was analyzed .Results The expression rate of β-catenin was lower in group D than that in groups of A and B(34.0% vs .83.3% and 68.2% )(P<0 .05) .The expression rates of β-catenin in the patients of group D with grades of G1 ,G2 and G3 were 73.3% ,50.0% and 7.4% (P<0 .05) .The expression rate of β-catenin was lower in the patients of group D in stage Ⅲ 、Ⅳ than that in those in stage Ⅰ 、Ⅱ(12.5% vs .72.2% )(P<0 .01) .The expression rate of APC protein was lower in group D than that in groups of A and B(36.0% vs .83.3% and 59.1% )(P<0 .05) .The expression rates of APC protein in the patients of group D with grades of G1 ,G2 and G3 were 80.0% ,50.0% and 7.4% (P<0 .05) . The expression rate of APC protein was lower in the patients of group D in stage Ⅲ 、Ⅳ than that in those in stage Ⅰ 、Ⅱ (15.6% vs .72.2% )(P<0 .01) .Conclusion The β-catenin and APC protein expressions in normal ovarian tissues may play an important role in the occurrence and development of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma .Combined detection of β-catenin and APC has a certain clinical significance in predicting the prognosis of patients with ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma .
