Abstract:Objective Evaluate the potential differences between the current curriculum model (including curriculum structure,teaching method,and assessment method) of undergraduate preventive medicine students in Peking University and the education goal of comprehensive cultivation.Provide a framework for optimizing curriculum model,increasing teaching quality,and expanding students' capability.Methods Using the retrospective survey,collected information of all required courses of 2012-2013 study year in all grades of seven-year program preventive medicine major in Peking University,which used a self-made structure questionnaire.And then analyzed the curriculum structure,teaching method,and assessment method.Results Current research sampled 65 courses,taking up 3257 class hours and 151 credits.Among them 58.5％ consisted laboratory or practice sessions,taking up 33.6％ of total hours.Meanwhile,21.5％ of all classes used PBL teaching method.Most of the courses (63.9％) were of a large size (student number ＞ 40).Lecturing,as the major teaching method,took up 78.7％ of class hours,regardless of the class size (98.3％ in large sized class and 48.8％ in small sized class).Paper based exam were the major assessment method,responsible for 69.9％ of total credits.Conclusions The study suggests that current curriculum model has its limitations in comprehensive cultivation.Hence,a systemic restructure of curriculum and an upgrade of teaching method is proposed.For skill-based courses,This paper suggest to increase the proportion of small-size classes.Besides the teacher-to-student teaching model,This paper suggests to use more new-type teaching method (such as PBL teaching method),which can improve the students' ability of innovation.Moreover,an improving in assessment method is needed for enhancing students' comprehensive abilities.
