Evaluation of curriculum reform in medical statistics for graduate students in public health and preventive medicine

Abstract:Objectives To evaluate the reform on medical statistics courses among postgraduate students in public health.Methods Self-designed questionnaire was conducted before and after the statistical curriculum reform among all postgraduate students in School of Public Health of Peking University Health Science Center.Results After the curriculum reform,the new curriculum is suitable,but more emphasis should be addressed on their applications.The small classes were well accepted,while theory teaching and practice on computer should be closely integrated,and more quizzes and regular assignments were suggested as evaluation methods in the classes.The abilities of independent learning and problem solving were improved among postgraduates after the reform,however,the contents of courses should be updated regularly and some new statistical packages should be particularly introduced.Conclusions Some achievement has been made through the medical statistical curriculum reform,however,changes and adjustments should be adapted in time to meet the development of research fields as well as the needs from students.
