Comparisons of students from poor families with different genders on work-study program in medical university

Abstract:This paper analyzed the differences of work-study program statuses between different gender students from poor families,and draft a suitable strategy for educating through work-study program.It will also be the statistical evidence for improving and reforming in work-study program system.Conducting the cluster sampling methods,the authors investigated 713 medical students with questionnaires.The investigators entered data with Epidata 3.0 software and described it with SPSS 11.0 statistical software,with which they also did the nonparametric rank sum test.Opinions of female and male students tended to be the same but with some differences.Female students required lower compensation and had higher satisfaction,while male students showed the opposite.According to the characteristics of female and male students,universities should focus on enhancing the levels of work-study program for female students,and on caring more about female students to take care of their worries.For male students,universities should emphasize on enhancing their family responsibilities to help them to take the responsibilities of family and society;and on encouraging them to actively participate the work-study programs to increase income to reduce family financial burden.Universities should continuously develop high intellectual content work-study jobs,attract male students to participate in work-study programs,and pay attention to guiding them to avoid affecting their normal study and life by too much stressful work-study jobs.
