Abstract:Abstract As a non-destructive testing method, computer vision has the advantages of rapidity, simplicity and less sample preparation, and has been widely used in the quality inspection of agricultural products such as size, shape, color, defects and freshness. It has become the development trend of agricultural products and food inspection work to replace manual operation with visual technology. By extracting the size, shape, color, texture and other characteristics of agricultural products and foods, combined with the prediction model, the digital image processing method can realize the non-contact and non-damage treatment of agricultural products and foods. This paper summarizes the application research and development of computer vision technology in agricultural products and food inspection at home and abroad.

Abstract:Current applications of machine vision in agriculture are briefly reviewed. The requirements and recent developments of hardware and software for machine vision systems are discussed, with emphases on multispectral and hyperspectral imaging for modern food inspection. Examples of applications for detection of disease, defects, and contamination on poultry carcasses and apples are also given. Future trends of machine vision technology applications are discussed.

Abstract:With the rapid progress of image processing algorithms and computer equipment, the development of machine vision technology in the field of modern agricultural equipment is on the ascendant, and major application results have been obtained in many production links to improve the efficiency and automation of agricultural production. In the face of China, the world’s largest agricultural market, agricultural machine vision equipment undoubtedly has tremendous development potential and market prospects. This paper introduces the research and application of machine vision technology in agricultural equipment in the fields of agricultural product sorting, production automation, pest control, picking machinery, navigation, and positioning, analyzes and summarizes the current problems, and looks forward to the future development trend.

Abstract:Agricultural food's logistics needs to be efficient and to provide assurance on the safety and quality of its products which consumers could trust. This paper designs a machine vision system by which fruits or vegetables can be detected for defects and damages during transportation and storage. The color histogram extracted in local image patch is used as image feature and the Linear SVM (Support vector machine) is used for model learning, which provides good robustness, higher accuracy and modest calculation costs. In a case of apple inspection, our system realizes a recall rate of 96.8% and a false detection rate of 1.6%. By the output of this inspection, agri-food producers are able to prevent the products with deformity and blemishes from reaching the end customers, thereby the safety and quality of the agri-food markets can be guaranteed.

Abstract:As a rapid, nondestructive, cost-effective, objective detection technique, machine vision (MV) has been gradually applied in seeds inspection. In the past, almost all studies focused on varieties identification and quality detection for static seeds in laboratory, but the practical applications such as portable instruments, sorting systems in seed quality detection were not common in industrial uses. For static or dynamic seeds detection, the basic steps including image acquisition, feature extraction, classifier design are the same, the only differences is that the seed is moving for dynamic detection, and the unsatisfactory seeds are automatically rejected. While no related papers have reviewed the development of seed portable instruments and sorting systems. In this work, the feature extraction and classifier design in MV system, the constitution, operational principle, advantage of visual portable instrument were introduced at first. Then performance and characteristic of some commercial instruments were compared. Next, an overview of real-time automatic quality inspection sorting systems was explained in detail. Problems including the imperfect seed singulation, the low processing efficiency below real-time requirements and the detection limitations of MV restricted the fast development of seed sorting systems and research progress for each problems was also explained at the same time. Finally the noteworthy attention of developing seed visual sorters were proposed.

Abstract:Food processing technology is an important part of modern life globally and will undoubtedly play an increasingly significant role in future development of industry. Food quality and safety are societal concerns, and food health is one of the most important aspects of food processing. However, ensuring food quality and safety is a complex process that necessitates huge investments in labor. Currently, machine vision system based image analysis is widely used in the food industry to monitor food quality, greatly assisting researchers and industry in improving food inspection efficiency. Meanwhile, the use of deep learning in machine vision has significantly improved food identification intelligence. This paper reviews the application of machine vision in food detection from the hardware and software of machine vision systems, introduces the current state of research on various forms of machine vision, and provides an outlook on the challenges that machine vision system faces.

Abstract:Presently, the traditional methods employed for detecting livestock and poultry meat predominantly involve sensory evaluation conducted by humans, chemical index detection, and microbial detection. While these methods demonstrate commendable accuracy in detection, their application becomes more challenging when applied to large-scale production by enterprises. Compared with traditional detection methods, machine vision and hyperspectral technology can realize real-time online detection of large throughput because of their advantages of high efficiency, accuracy, and non-contact measurement, so they have been widely concerned by researchers. Based on this, in order to further enhance the accuracy of online quality detection for livestock and poultry meat, this article presents a comprehensive overview of methods based on machine vision, hyperspectral, and multi-sensor information fusion technologies. This review encompasses an examination of the current research status and the latest advancements in these methodologies while also deliberating on potential future development trends. The ultimate objective is to provide pertinent information and serve as a valuable research resource for the non-destructive online quality detection of livestock and poultry meat.

Abstract:The vision system of apple harvesting robot was researched and designed to make it possible for realizing automatic harvesting of apple. The vision system model is studied. The vision system of apple harvesting robot was designed by two aspects, including hardware composition and soft architecture. The VFW method was employed to realize the real-time image acquisition. The recognition of vision system is developed using the combination method of regional growth algorithm and color characteristics. The preliminary orientation of apple target was calculated by finding its centroid. At last, the performance of this version system was evaluated. The results showed that the developed vision system of apple harvesting robot successfully achieved the recognition and orientation of apple target. It was conclude that this version system was effective for realizing the automatic harvesting of apple.

Abstract:The monooxygenase-mediated hydroxylations of aliphatic carbon atoms are known to be regioselective for positions alpha to heteroatoms or to pi systems (aromatic rings, carbon-carbon double bonds, carbonyl groups). Ab initio calculations (STO-3G and in some cases 4-31G) were performed on model molecules, indicating that the Mulliken overlap populations (taken as indices of electron bond densities) of Calpha-H bonds being regioselectively hydroxylated are larger than Cbeta-H and Cgamma-H overlap populations. These results support the hypothesis that metabolic C-hydroxylations occur by insertion of an activated oxygen species of electrophilic nature, probably oxene.

Abstract:The utilization of machine vision and its associated algorithms improves the efficiency, functionality, intelligence, and remote interactivity of harvesting robots in complex agricultural environments. Machine vision and its associated emerging technology promise huge potential in advanced agricultural applications. However, machine vision and its precise positioning still have many technical difficulties, making it difficult for most harvesting robots to achieve true commercial applications. This article reports the application and research progress of harvesting robots and vision technology in fruit picking. The potential applications of vision and quantitative methods of localization, target recognition, 3D reconstruction, and fault tolerance of complex agricultural environment are focused, and fault-tolerant technology designed for utilization with machine vision and robotic systems are also explored. The two main methods used in fruit recognition and localization are reviewed, including digital image processing technology and deep learning-based algorithms. The future challenges brought about by recognition and localization success rates are identified: target recognition in the presence of illumination changes and occlusion environments; target tracking in dynamic interference-laden environments, 3D target reconstruction, and fault tolerance of the vision system for agricultural robots. In the end, several open research problems specific to recognition and localization applications for fruit harvesting robots are mentioned, and the latest development and future development trends of machine vision are described.

Abstract:Abstract The emergence of image processing technology has greatly promoted the development of agriculture in China. By describing the application status of image processing technology in agriculture and its impact on agricultural output value, it is convenient for people to understand the importance of image processing technology for agricultural development. Based on this, this paper analyzes the application of image processing technology in the field of agriculture. Firstly, this paper analyzes the application of image processing technology in agricultural field. Secondly, in order to highlight the application effect of image processing technology in agricultural field, this paper applies image processing technology and traditional machine recognition technology to crop pest detection, and analyzes their effects. The results showed that the recognition rate of the traditional machine recognition technology was 65%, 71%, 74%, 63%, 64% and 62% respectively. The results show that the recognition rate of this method is 86%, 89%, 91%, 83%, 78% and 79%, respectively. It can be seen that the detection method of image processing technology is better in the detection of crop diseases and insect pests.

Abstract:As computer and mechanical automation technologies advance, machine vision-based non-destructive testing technology finds use in a multitude of domains. Non-destructive testing technologies can be used on apple sorting equipment to decrease apple damage while simultaneously increasing sorting efficiency. As a result, the apple sorting machine’s image identification system now incorporates machine vision technology. The automatic classification of apple grades is accomplished by gathering, processing, extracting, and computing the contour features of apple photographs using preset sorting levels. The automatic control system then sorts apples of different grades to designated locations, thus achieving the automation of apple sorting. Tests were run on the sorting machine’s image recognition system to confirm the solution’s viability. The outcomes demonstrate that the sorting machine can effectively classify fruit automatically based on their perimeter, which is important for fruit sorting automation.

Abstract:The research on real time fruit quality detection with machine vision is an attractive and prospective subject for improving marketing competition and post harvesting value-added processing technology of fruit products. However, the farm products with different varieties and different quality have caused tremendous losses in economy due to lacking the post-harvest inspecting standards and measures in China. In view of the existing situations of fruit quality detection and the broad application prospect of machine vision in quality evaluation of agricultural products in China, the methods to detect the external quality of pear by machine vision were researched in this work. It aims at solving the problems, such as fast processing the large amount of image information, processing capability and increasing precision of detection, etc. The research is supported by the software of Lab Windows/CVI of NI Company. The system can be used for fruit grading by the external qualities of size, shape, color and surface defects. Some fundamental theories of machine vision based on virtual instrumentation were investigated and developed in this work. It is testified that machine vision is an alternative to unreliable manual sorting of fruits.

Abstract:Many tasks in smart agriculture have further requirements for the autonomous navigation of agricultural robots. Due to irreplaceable visual information and low-cost hardware costs, machine vision (MV) is widely used in agricultural robot navigation. This paper reviewed applications of MV in agricultural robot navigation. First, the advantages, disadvantages and roles of different vision sensors and MV algorithms in agricultural robot navigation were introduced. And then, the development status of MV in agricultural robot navigation was reviewed. Finally, the challenges of MV in agricultural robot navigation were discussed. To address these challenges, this paper looks forward to the development directions of future research.

Abstract:Machine vision for precision agriculture has attracted considerable research interest in recent years. The aim of this paper is to review the most recent work in the application of machine vision to agriculture, mainly for crop farming. This study can serve as a research guide for the researcher and practitioner alike in applying cognitive technology to agriculture. Studies of different agricultural activities that support crop harvesting are reviewed, such as fruit grading, fruit counting, and yield estimation. Moreover, plant health monitoring approaches are addressed, including weed, insect, and disease detection. Finally, recent research efforts considering vehicle guidance systems and agricultural harvesting robots are also reviewed.

Information Processing in Agriculture

Abstract:Computer vision is a field that involves making a machine "see". This technology uses a camera and computer instead of the human eye to identify, track and measure targets for further image processing. With the development of computer vision, such technology has been widely used in the field of agricultural automation and plays a key role in its development. This review systematically summarizes and analyzes the technologies and challenges over the past three years and explores future opportunities and prospects to form the latest reference for researchers. Through the analyses, it is found that the existing technology can help the development of agricultural automation for small field farming to achieve the advantages of low cost, high efficiency and high precision. However, there are still major challenges. First, the technology will continue to expand into new application areas in the future, and there will be more technological issues that need to be overcome. It is essential to build large-scale data sets. Second, with the rapid development of agricultural automation, the demand for professionals will continue to grow. Finally, the robust performance of related technologies in various complex environments will also face challenges. Through analysis and discussion, we believe that in the future, computer vision technology will be combined with intelligent technology such as deep learning technology, be applied to every aspect of agricultural production management based on large-scale datasets, be more widely used to solve the current agricultural problems, and better improve the economic, general and robust performance of agricultural automation systems, thus promoting the development of agricultural automation equipment and systems in a more intelligent direction.

Abstract:Hyperspectral imaging is an emerging technique that integrates conventional imaging and spectroscopy to obtain both spatial and spectral information from a studied object simultaneously. The images data can reflect the external features, surface defects and contamination. The spectra data can analyze physical structure and chemical composition in studied object. Therefore, hyperspectral imaging technology causes more and more attention, and has become a hot research topic recently. In order to track the latest research developments at home and abroad, application of hyperspectral reflectance and fluorescence imaging techniques to nondestructive detection of agricultural products external quality was reviewed, which would provide reference for application of hyperspectral imaging to agriculture.
