Abstract:A pot experiment was conducted to study the physiological and biochemical response of Trifolium repens inoculated with Glomus intraradices against high copper (Cu) contamination (300mg/kg).Cu contamination decreased the plant dry weight, and the levels of photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugar, proline and catalase (CAT) in leaves, and phosphorus (P) in each part, while increased the relative conductivity, peroxidase (POD), ascorbic acid (ASA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels in leaves, as well as magnesium (Mg) in shoots, Cu and its Cu translocation amount in each part.In Cu polluted soil, AM fungi inoculation significantly increased plant dry weight, and the levels of chlorophyll, soluble sugar, proline, POD, CAT, ASA, P, Cu in leaves, and Mg in each part, but decreased the relative conductivity and H2O2 concentration. In addition, the Cu translocation amount was significantly higher in mycorrhizal plants than in non-mycorrhizal ones in Cu contaminated and Cu normal soils. In summary, G.intraradices inoculation not only increased the growth and the Cu accumulation in shoots significantly, but also enhanced the resistance of Trifolium repensp against Cu contamination through improving osmotic adjustment and oxidation resistance.
