Study on the Allelopathy of the Stems and Leaves of Red Clover to the Seeds and Seedlings of Several Forage Grasses

Abstract:The allelopathy of red clover was study by the method of bioassay of culture plate and sand culture in the experiment in order to explore how the treats with three extract concentrations(5%、7.5%、10% w/v) of red clover affect the growth and germination of receptor plants, such as: Italian ryegrass, tall fescue, alfalfa, white clover, radish and red clover itself. The results showed that the growth of seedling of Italian ryegrass, white clover, alfalfa and radish were apparently inhibited and the root dry weight of Italian ryegrass and germination of tall fescue were reduced by the three extract concentrations of red clover.
