A Study on the Characters of Dietary Fiber in Pigs

Abstract:NDF were extracted from six feeds(barley,wheat bran,rapeseed meal, alfalfa hay,sugar beet pulp and paddy shell) used as fibrous substrates,which were fermented with feces from piglets,growing pigs and finishing pigs to study on the characters of dietary fiber in pigs.The results showed that:(1) There were significant differences in the fiber characters among these feeds.The fiber fermertation rates of sugar beet pulp and alfalfa hay meal were higher than those of the other feeds,while that of paddy shell was the lowest.(2)The fiber fermentation rates were similar at the 6th and 12th hours and an obvious increase occurred during the period from the 12th hour to the 24th hour.(3)The fiber fermentation rate of the feces from piglets was similar to that of the feces from growing pigs at the 6th and 12th hours while at the 24th hour it was higher than those of the feces from growing pigs and finishing pigs.
