Abstract:Based on the analysis of the role of urban intelligent transportation system, the status of ITS development around the world is introduced. Then, developments in several advanced cities of our country are analyzed, including the systems of intelligent traffic management, intelligent public transportation, and traffic information service, whereas application of latest intelligent transport technologies are also presented. Finally, some key points and suggestions to promote the development of ITS are submitted. The core viewpoints of the paper are as following. First of all, perfect traditional traffic engineering facilities, optimal operation scheme and dynamic data collection are the basic for success. Although the advanced system is successfully built, it will not work well without integration of traffic mark, guard rail, good behavior and enough information support. Meanwhile, high level strategy planning and design also constitute good guarantee for success;thirdly, capacity building is another necessary condition for sound operation of the system.

Abstract:As we know, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can improve safety, reduce congestion, enhance mobility, minimize environmental impact, save energy and promote economic productivity in our transportation system. However, China does not have a perfect strategic planning and architecture for ITS. It is important for China to develop ITS architecture. In terms of the characteristics of Chinese transportation, this paper creates ITS architecture, which defines the interface and interaction between three layers. Actually, this paper is mainly concerned about ITS architecture in urban and expressway transportation systems. Finally, this paper talks about the issues for future consideration of ITS in China.

Abstract:The rapid development of the Chinese economy over the past 30 years has increased demand for passenger and freight transport considerably. Although restrictions on economic development have been alleviated by a major programme of road construction, China has begun to seek more sustainable ways of supporting transport development. Intelligent transport systems (ITS) have been introduced and a series of research has been conducted to take advantage of ITS applications in traffic management and control with significant social, economic and environmental benefits. This paper reviews the current use of ITS in China and presents policies, technologies, typical applications and recent activities in ITS development. The main achievements that reflect the current level of China's ITS development are described, in particular the ITS showcase programme and preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. Finally, the paper discusses China's future ITS plans.

Abstract:Over the past decades, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have developed and deployed in order to improve transportation safety and mobility, reduces environmental impact, promotes sustainable transportation development and enhances productivity. ITS combines high technology and improvements in information systems, communication, sensors, controllers and advanced mathematical methods with the conventional world of transportation infrastructure. As an interdisciplinary research field, it is difficult to have a clear picture about the whole system for a novice researcher. This paper 1) proposes an ITS architecture, which is based on the requirement and technology at the present stage; 2) sort out the bottleneck issue that lie behind intelligent transportation research; 3) explores the future prospect of the ITS and research focus as new technologies become available.

Abstract:This paper presents firstly that the trend of transportation systems is not only the ITS but also integrated transportation systems. The new viewpoint is dissertated on three aspects. Firstly, considering of the category the ITS belonging to, the passage analyzes the status of the ITS. Secondly, thinking about the causes of the traffic problems, the paper also takes the effect range of ITS into account. At last, taking the traffic control and traffic inducement for example, the article shows that the traffic system must be integrated. And then, the information problem of the ITS is discussed from three points, that is the relationship between information and intelligence, the problem about quantity and quality of information, and the need of the intelligence by the development of IT. Afterwards, through the examples of 7 aspects, the ignorance of the complexity of traffic systems is explained. Finally, the necessity of using the methodology of system science to study on traffic system is raised.

Abstract:In this paper, two parallel worldwide tends of transportation systems are pointed out: Integrated Transportation System, Intelligent Transport System. The necessity of Integrated Transportation System is discussed. The connotation of Integrated Transportation System should be understood as follows: for optimizing of transportation resource, for integrating of travel demand management, and for including of total processes of transportation systems. The extension of Integrated Transportation System is presented. The paper focuses on the two problems: the relationship between Integrated Transportation System and ITS, the relationship between ITS and Traffic Engineering. The perspective which the non - technical factors should be separated from ITS is presented.

Abstract:Regarding the exclusive characteristics of mixed traffic in China, this paper offers some ideas to design scenarios for mixed urban traffic control after analyzing the characteristics of urban networks and traffic flow. Based on mix-flow theories, the paper establishes a system, namely HiCON, of urban mixed traffic control, including ramp metering, single-point control, coordinated arterial and regional control, and transit priority control. Implementations of HiCON in Beijing, Qingdao, and Fuzhou, respectively, have shown promising results: 10-20% reduction of delay, and 5-10% reduction of travel time, both for vehicles and in average.

Abstract:Nowadays traffic jam becomes a serious problem and also one of the major bottlenecks that restrict the city's development. ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) is proposed to deal with this problem, which generally combines computer science, information system, communication and control technologies. However, many cities in the world have become so crowded in the peak time that most available route planning methods based on static city maps could not work well. In this paper, we design and implement a kind of intelligent traffic guidance system based on pricing model and dynamic toll collection policy, which includes vehicle-mounted terminal, application software and developed pricing algorithm in the server side.

Abstract:Advanced Internet of Things (IoT) technology has a profound impact on improving the intelligence level of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and promoting the sustainable development of urban transportation. However, how to use IoT to process traffic flow and make ITS develop towards automation and global control is still a challenge. Against this backdrop, a prospective traffic controlling model is proposed for ITS based on IoT to enhance the awareness of roads and the responsiveness of transportation system. When traffic congestion events occur, ITS can provide the optimal control strategy of vehicle-to-everything supported vehicles (V2X-supported vehicles) from a macro perspective to control the traffic flow globally and improve traffic efficiency. Specially, the optimal control strategies consider the potential congested road segments caused by congestion propagation. Meanwhile, this paper explores the impact of route choice behavior of V2X-supported vehicles on system performance. The simulation results show the optimal control strategies can alleviate congestion effectively and improve transportation system performance significantly by controlling vehicles.

Abstract:By using the concept, guiding ideology and design idea of artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Thing, this study puts forward the logistics intelligent transportation system (ITS) model, structure design and function design based on AI, focusing on the time value and information value of the intelligent logistics information system. The results show that the design of ITS model based on AI includes three modules: input, transformation and output of ITS. The ITS supply chain management platform and function design of freight vehicles with AI is feasible and prospective. The application of AI technology in ITS has great value and development prospect.
