Thinking and Practice on Building Learning Research Team for Systems Biology

Abstract:This paper is devoted to exploring the organization method for constructing highly effective research team for systems biology.Firstly,the discipline of systems biology is introduced and defined as a new frontier and cross discipline.Secondly,the challenges facing the construction of an effective research team for systems biology are analyzed,where the interior challenges come from the extremely complexity of life and the integration of the multi-disciplinary study and the outer challenges come from the support of supervising department.To conquer these challenges,the methodology of applying the learning organization theory to the organization of systems biology research team is proposed.By taking full advantages of the five methods of learning organization——personal mastery,improving mental model,building shared vision,team learning and system thinking,the systems biology research team will learn how to learn,to be good at innovation,and to become a learning team eventually.The learning organization theory has been applied to the practice of constructing the research team of systems biology for Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been proved to be effective.To conclude,the characteristics and challenges of systems biology discipline determined it is appropriate to take the advantages of learning organization theory to build an effective research team.
