Abstract:With a view to the autofocusing character of human eyes,authors analyse the RGB components of a digital focus target image separately,that is,authors apply a traditional focus measure on the R,G and B components of the target image and get three values,then authors synthesize the three values into one and use it as the new focus measure.In general,the new approach improves the effect of the traditional focus measures.In this paper,authors discuss this new method in details.

Abstract:Different automatic detection methods and algorithms that can be used for automatic viewfinder and zoom are discussed.A new automatic detection system based on sound detection and image analysis is introduced.The preliminary viewfinder is realized by sound detection and more precise range is obtained by image detection.Image detection also determines the zoom ratio.Especially,we made lots of researches on motion detection and complex- ion.The results show that this system breaks the limitation of the camera's angle of view,improves the accuracy and stability of the automatic viewfinder and achieves automatic zoom.This proposed system will be applied well in vari- ous monitoring situations.

Abstract:In digital optical imaging systems, especially digital cameras, autofocus based on image processing (ABOIP) has been widely implemented. Here we present some autofocus techniques for digital cameras that take into account some proverbial human vision characteristics. None of the current focus measures, which are functions used to judge the sharpness of images, uses the color information in images as the human vision does. These focus measures fail when the target images are of different colors but almost equivalent in gray levels. We propose to improve these focus measures by analyzing the RGB components of the target images, instead of converting them into gray images to calculate the focus measures. This method sharpens the focus measure curves in general, and overcomes the aforementioned shortcoming of the traditional focus measures. Most commercially available digital cameras with ABOIP choose an evenly sampled small area in the central part of a target image as focus window to reduce the computational consumption. Considering the unevenness of the photoreceptors in the retina, we propose to sample target images in a similar way. The central part is sampled with high resolution, and the sampling is decreased gradually from the center to the periphery. The uneven sampling can reduce the computation dramatically while keep most of the important information. The human eye tracks the objects of interest with the fovea to keep high sampling of the targets and to sample the non-targets with very low resolution, or even totally ignore them. We propose to utilize two methods to choose focus window in target images dynamically. The first one is using pattern recognition to extract the objects of interest with certain a priori knowledge. Abstract:There are two kinds of auto-focus methods in a digital imaging system: Depth from focus (DFF) and Depth from defocus (DFD). Depth from defocus is a method, which acquired distance information from blurred image. Because of necessity of establishment of defocus model and accurate calibration of imaging system, the application of DFD is confined. As a search focusing technology, Depth from focus has some advantages, such as high accuracy, robust performance, so it is adopted in our apparatus. In this paper, an auto-focus apparatus based on digital signal processor has been designed and constructed. DSP receives image series from a CMOS sensor firstly, then performs the auto-focus action with the following steps: analyzing focus measure of image, moving motorized lens and finding the best imaging position. For focus measures, the frequency spectrum functions, the gradient functions and the entropy function are analyzed in detail. In order to improve the sensitivity of focus measure curve, the weighting factor - distance between direct current component and alternating current component - was introduced into revising frequency spectrum functions. A series of focus experiments have been performed on the auto-focus apparatus, and the veracity and the reliability of the system have been proved to be excellent.
Auto-focusing and Auto-Alignment System for Three-Panel LCD Projection Display

Abstract:An Auto-focusing and Auto-alignment system based on digital image processing and the computer control technology was developed for 3-LCD projector manufacture. We analyzed the imaging characteristic of the optical system, and developed a mathematical model to realize the accurate focusing of each LCD panel and accurate alignment among three LCD panels. Based on the model, the experimental facility was set up, which is compose of five CCD detectors that are placed on the screen at different filed of view to capture images and regulating mechanism of LCD's six-dimensional degree of freedom droved by stepper motors. Appropriate defocusing evaluation function and alignment algorithm were also presented in this paper. The images captured by CCDs are processed to get the defocusing amount of every panel by the variance function and displacement amount of the three LCD panels by the gravity model approach. Then commands are sent to regulating mechanism to control the movement of each panel. After several turns of auto-correction, all the panels are in the proper position. Experiment results show that with the proper algorithm, the system can provide high accuracy and good performance in projector manufacture. The whole focusing and alignment process can be finished within ten minutes which is far superior to that made by man more than half an hour. With this system, completely automatic product lines can be established, which can provide 3-panel LCD projector light engines with considerable focusing and alignment accuracy.
Image Pre-Processing Techniques for Auto Focusing

Abstract:The necessity of image pre-processing in focusing system is analyzed from the aspects of noise, consistency of brightness and field of view. An image pre-processing techniques based on Wiener filter and normalization of image brightness is proposed for weaken the influence of periodic noise and brightness variation. The experiments show that the shape of focusing measure curve is obviously improved after pre-processing, the curve is smoother, local peak is eliminated and curve sensitivity is improved by 78%. The proposed pre-processing techniques makes the focusing search escapes influence of local peak and it has application value both in optimization of focusing speed and focusing accuracy.

Abstract:Because of the flight of the remote sensing camera in the orbit, the successive images of the scenes captured by the remote sensing camera are different at any time. So it is difficult for the camera to implement autofocus. In this paper, an auto-focusing method in the remote sensing camera is proposed based on successive two images captured in a short time which have an overlapped region where scenes are same. Firstly, the space camera moving in the orbit, shoots one picture every time the camera adjusts its focus, and then we can obtain a sequence of images after several times, from which the displacement and the overlapped regions of two adjacent images can be calculated by image registration algorithm. We can take every two adjacent images as a group. Therefore, every image has a value of focusing accuracy by performing a sharpness evaluation function on the overlapped region of each image. Finally, according to the transfer characteristic of evaluation values of every two partly overlapped images, we can unify the evaluation values in a same merit evaluation system. And then find the maximum value of image evaluation values in a same evaluation system, so we can find the accurate focus. Simulation experiment shows that this method works pretty well in auto focusing when relative motion between the camera and the object is existed. This method can be used in aerial camera and remote sensing camera.

Abstract:The multi-image-distance imaging system captures multiple images simultaneously with different focused depths, and uses image fusion to obtain an all-in-focus image for extending the depth of field (DoF). However, an image-distance adjustment strategy that takes into account the optimal DoF extension capability and imaging quality remains to be explored. In this paper, we propose a joint focusing method based on the optimal image-distance interval between the three sensors. First, we propose multi-sensor image-distance adjustment control strategies for different scenes. Then, theoretical analyses and calibration experiments of the optimal image-distance interval are conducted for continuous depth scenes. In order to quantitatively evaluate the DoF extension performance of the imaging system, a DoF estimation method based on point spread function measurement is proposed. Additionally, an evaluation metrics for extended DoF imaging based on the range and continuity of DoF is presented. We have developed a multi-image-distance electric focusing imaging system. Imaging experiments are conducted in various scenes to verify the effectiveness of the joint focusing method. The joint focusing method, based on the optimal image-distance interval, provides an image-distance adjustment strategy to achieve high-quality extended DoF imaging for multi-image-distance imaging systems.

Abstract:For the Spherical Surface Defects Evaluation System (SSDES), lens centering is essential to obtain the precise scanning trace and defect features without mismatch. Based on a combination of auto-collimating microscopy and Computer-Aided Alignment (CAA), an auto-centering system that can measure the deviation of large spherical center with respect to a reference rotation axis rapidly and accurately is established in this paper. The auto-centering system allows the closed-loop feedback control of spherical center according to the different images of the crosshair reticle on CCD. Image entropy algorithm is employed to evaluate image clarity determined by the auto-focus experiment of 50 mu m step-length. Subsequently, an improved algorithm that can search the crosshair center automatically is proposed to make the trajectory of crosshair images and the position of rotation axis more reliable based on original circle fitting algorithm by the least square method (LSM). The comparison results indicates to show the high accuracy and efficiency of the proposed fitting method with LSM.
An Aerial Focusing Method Based On Focusing Window Selection And Variable Threshold Focusing Evaluation Function In Frequency Domain

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the focus range and focus accuracy cannot be balanced during the focusing process of scenes with small targets in a large field of view such as ships in the ocean, this paper proposes a selection of the focusing window based on gradient matrix and an adjustable coverage range autofocus evaluation function in frequency domain. By using gradient operators of different sizes for different search intervals, the gradient matrix of the image can be obtained. This kind of strategy takes both accuracy and detection rate into consideration. Through segmentation, area with rich details could be chosen as the focusing window. In order to solve the problem that the focusing evaluation function don't works well when the amount of defocus blur is large, this paper proposes a new evaluation function based on an amplitude summation of different frequency component with variable threshold. For the scenes with small target in a large filed of view, more than 100 pictures with continuously changing defocus were established. Experiments indicate that the method proposed in this paper can meet the characteristics of a wide focusing range and high sensitivity at the same time when variable threshold was used. Compared with existing methods, the method above performs better in noise robustness and has a larger coverage range, at the same time, it provides a sharper peak of evaluation function which means higher sensitivity.

Abstract:It is always the emphasis of research about how to realize auto-focus quickly and effectively in imaging system. This paper put forward algorithms that can enhance edge features in images for improving auto-focus capability and compares the usual edge-enhance filters with wavelet-based filters. Experimental data shows that although both the usual edge-enhance filters and wavelet-based filters improve the focus capability the latter can detect slightly defocused images more effectively. Therefor they have a good future in application.

Abstract:A new 3D computer vision approach, 3D spectrum imaging and reconstruction system, is proposed in this paper. The basic principal and structure of the system is introduced, the formulas to obtain the 3D information is deduced on the base of triangular algorithm, and the experiment result is given. As it shows in the paper, this new 3D computer vision system is clear in its principal, fast in its accurate computation, and simple in its structure. The fast 3D objects imaging and reconstruction features of this system can make it possible to be used in practical applications.

Abstract:Depth of field (DoF) defines the longitudinal range of objects in sharp focus. Imaging systems for machine vision are generally limited to a small DoF by various conditions, constraining the visual inspection of objects with large depth. In this paper, we develop a multi-image-distance imaging system, which can extend the DoF by capturing multi-focus images for fusion. A three-way beam-splitter prism is designed to support independent imaging of three image sensors. Through adjusting the sensors to different back focal lengths, multiple images focusing at different depths are captured in a single exposure. Finally, the focused regions of each image are fused for extending the DoF. Analyses of the proposed DoF extension strategy illustrate excellent enhancement more than three times. Moreover, we introduce a DoF measurement method based on the estimation of the point spread function, and measurement experiments are conducted using the fabricated prototype. Imaging experiments for various scenes demonstrate great imaging quality and DoF extension performance. The proposed multi-image-distance imaging system provides an effective and practical DoF extension solution for close-range visual inspection.
Application of digital image processing in three colors' auto-focusing and auto-alignment of projection display

Abstract:To resolve the handworked orientation problem in the industrial production of optical engines in three-panel projection display system, a new automatic system was proposed. Using square error function and the barycenter algorithm of light intensity as the merit function of focusing and alignment respectively, the system analyzed the images captured by charge coupled device (CCD) in the projection screen to produce feedback signals. By adjusting the position of spatial light modulator (SLM), the three colors' auto-focusing and auto-alignment was realized. The experimental results indicate that three colors' high precise, efficient auto-focusing and auto-alignment can be achieved in the above system under the control of motors reaching high accuracy in several minutes.
Automatic retinal image diagnosis system for mass health screenings

Abstract:A computerized system was reported capable of automatically doing quantitative analysis of morphological, structural and optical modifications of retinal vessels. This system included hardware for image acuquisition and display and software for performing image archiving, image analysis, retinal vascular networks recognition and artificial intelligence. By clinical experiment, the effectiveness of this system was proved and some numerical index for classification the degree of retinal arteriosclerosis was put forward. The accuracy and reliability of the results, justified by their low variability, made feasible the standardization of quantitative parameters to be used both in the diagnosis and in the prognosis of systemic diseases, and also allowed prospective studies based upon them.

Abstract:The image quality is the most direct method for evaluating actual optical system's quality. Imaging of standard feather image, such as resolution plate, comet and so on is also frequently used in lens test in optical industry. The existing simulation method for optical system can be divided into two categories. One is using ideal optical system model to simulate image the object formed, but the actual parameters, aberration, processing and assembly of the optical system cannot be considered. The other can calculate the special field's Spot Diagram, Point Spread Function and Module Transfer Function by the optical design software. It is widely used for optimization (design) and image restoration. In this paper, the actual optical system is simulated by our self-developed simulation software, the target image is entered, the ray tracing method is used and the simulated image is received, which is formed by the object image of the practical optical system with errors. Known parameters of the optical system are used in this article. The correctness of simulation results is demonstrated. And the targeted photorealistic images with colors and photometric information can be gotten by the simulation software, and the more rays be used, the more fields be cut, the simulated image much closer to the actual image. The errors possible existing in optical system processing and assembly, such as eccentric, tilt or surface error are considered in our simulation software, and the simulated image we get is affected by these factors. So that we can give the reasonable tolerances, speed up the development efficiency and reduce cost.

Abstract:A single-lens micro-angle measurement system,which used QPD as position-sensing device is introduced in this paper.In the research,lots of its key technologies about the system have been analyzed such as adopted optical principle,the option and defocussing setting of optical devices like photoelectric detector and calculation and analysis of the feasibility of small size and so on.Through these research,the possibility of designing a compact and portable micro-angle measurement system with high sensibility and small volume was confirmed.Furthermore,the measurement range and accuracy of this micro-angle measurement system are obtained by experiment.

Abstract:Digital image processing is applied to measure the defocus of linear scan CCD with push broom for space remote-sensing camera. The selection of focus measure is the key to the auto-focusing by digital image processing. Most of the functions derived generally base on the same scene. As for the camera working in linear CCD sweep imaging mode, the scenes shot are different at any time. Different scenes are analyzed in the power spectrum spatial frequency domain, it can be shown that the power spectrum of most natural scenes is of invariability. The focus measure based on power spectrum is developed. The image pre-processing techniques based on wavelet denoising and normalization of image brightness are proposed to weak the influence of image noise and brightness variation. The acuity of the focus measure is improved effectively by weighting the focus measure based on power spectrum. The simulations show the feasibility of the proposed focus measure.
