Abstract:The existing three-dimensional visualisation of mining subsidence cannot fully convey the original landscape in the mining area. By using GIS and coupling the predicted result of subsidence in different mining stages with the original elevation data, a dynamic visualisation of mining process is approached, which could reflect geomorphologic features clearly. Furthermore, it visually shows the variation and the characterisation of the surface subsidence, according to which one can analyse and evaluate the degree of mining subsidence damage. The generated information, such as slope, aspect, stagnant water area and the amount of settlement volume calculation, could provide technical support for reclamation work while mining is in process.

Abstract:With the development of 3D display and virtual reality technology, its application gets more and more widespread. This paper applies 3D display technology to the monitoring of submarine pipeline. We reconstruct the submarine pipeline and its surrounding submarine terrain in computer using Horde3D graphics rendering engine on the foundation database "submarine pipeline and relative landforms & landscape synthesis database" so as to display the virtual scene of submarine pipeline based virtual reality and show the relevant data collected from the monitoring of submarine pipeline.

Abstract:In order to investigate the application effect of ultra shallow 3D seismic exploration method under the noisy environment of urban condition,an ultra shallow 3D seismic survey was carried out to testify a subway tunnel under a traffic road in Shanghai,China.The ultra shallow 3D seismic data was collected using a kind of special 3D seismic data acquisition layout with dense shots and the seismic data acquisition efficiency was increased.Then the seismic data processing software named Omega was used to process the 3D ultra shallow seismic data.The main processing methods included Band-pass filter,F-X domain Linear noise suppress,amplitude compensation,de-convolution,velocity analysis,CDP stack and so on.At last,the 3D seismic dataset was displayed and analyzed using the 3D visual software.The results show that the seismic reflection event of interface between ultra shallow stratums can be seen from stack profiles.Moreover,the distribution of the subsurface subway tunnel can be identified from ultra-shallow 3D seismic investigation.

Abstract:This paper describes how 3 D visualization is achieved through OpenGL techniques.A three dimensional model of the aquifer is created from the Finite Element Method(FEM) grid and the top and bottom aquifer depths information,and groundwater table dynamics is displayed by 3 D surface movies.This study can serve as an example of how the use of 3 D visualization techniques can benefit to decision maker to understand groundwater aquifer.

Abstract:In this paper,a simple,rapid and intuitive GIS-based 3D geological modeling and visualization method is introduced.The borehole data extraction program was implemented based on the VBA function of ArcGIS for creating the 3D borehole models;Then,the spatial interpolation tool was used for constructing the multi-stratum TIN surface models,and the fault lines was digitized for creating the 3D faults which are combined into one geological structure model;In addition,a 3D geological visualization prototype system based on SceneControl components was implemented using C# and the constructed 3D geological was represented on it.A series test results show the methods of this paper operate not only very simply,but also can get better visualization effect,meanwhile,the short system development time is very short.As results,our methods can be widely applied for geosciences research,engineering application and other related fields.

Abstract:Inadequate geological sampling information is a major constraint for 3D geological modeling of the deep geological body.Since it is relatively easier to acquire the deep geophysical data,the visualization model of the geophysical data can be formed effectively.In this study,a 3D geological modeling method by the geophysical data collected in the geological survey is proposed.It involves firstly extracting the mapping function from geophysical data to the geological property by geophysical ex-periment on the samples,and then integrating the visualization models constructed from multi-source geophysical data for inter-pretation,and finally converting the interpreted visualization model to the 3D geological model.The method proves feasible for solutions on 3D modeling concerning deep geological bodies in the project.

Abstract:The rapid advances in information technologies, e.g., network, graphics processing, and virtual world, have provided challenges and opportunities for new capabilities in information systems, Internet applications, and virtual geographic environments, especially geographic visualization and collaboration. In order to achieve meaningful geographic capabilities, we need to explore and understand how these technologies can be used to construct virtual geographic environments to help to engage geographic research. The generation of three-dimensional (3D) terrain plays an important part in geographical visualization, computer simulation, and virtual geographic environment applications. The paper introduces concepts and technologies of virtual worlds and virtual geographic environments, explores integration of realistic terrain and other geographic objects and phenomena of natural geographic environment based on SL/OpenSim virtual world technologies. Realistic 3D terrain visualization is a foundation of construction of a mirror world or a sand box model of the earth landscape and geographic environment. The capabilities of interaction and collaboration on geographic information are discussed as well. Further virtual geographic applications can be developed based on the foundation work of realistic terrain visualization in virtual environments.

Abstract:As the surface visualization model is an important part of the three-dimensional geological mapping, automatically surface visualization modeling has very strong practicability. Using the elevation information provided by DEM (Digital Elevation Model), the surface visualization model which represents geological properties can be constructed costly and effectively. The paper discussed some data processing technologies in the application of geological surface modeling from the authors’ development work. And gave a detail description about how to automatically implementing the geological surface visualization modeling with DEM and the geological survey data.

Abstract:The 3 D virtual simulation technology has changed the way to traditional sense of the world and provided a friendly and high degree of immersion for experts and scholars.It is introduced together with the scientific visualization technology into the sediment research to propose the overall framework of the 3 D visualization system of sediment erosion and deposition based on virtual reality technology.The system realizes the virtual representation of the real watershed,4 D temporal and spatial changes of large-scale river erosion and deposition process in virtual environment and visual analysis of cross-section form change.Several techniques,including the river boundary identification,automatically adaptive modeling of river channel evolution,seamlessly nested modeling between dynamic river and the surrounding watershed scene,Levels of Detail(LOD) of river channel and seamlessly tiling of LOD patches,display mode and control mode for temporal and spatial visualization,interacting with dynamic river channel,extracting the section based on local interpolation,et al.,used in the system are proposed and studied.These techniques are proved to be practicability and feasibility with the Three Gorges Project as an example.

Abstract:Scientific visualization is important in modern technological activities and engineering exploration. Due to the dark and high-pressure characteristics of deep sea, it is difficult to visualize the entire operation of deep-sea equipment. Thus, it is of great necessity to use virtual simulation technology to help people understand the operation process of some deep-sea exploration equipment on the sea floor. In this paper, science, art, and new media are combined through artistic rendering, visual processing, and the technology of virtual reality (VR) and holography, which makes the exploration of the latest deep-sea lander and intelligent submersible named “Luling” look more intuitive and smart and have more visual impact and expression. Apart from that, automatic manipulation videos of the rover robot in the deep sea captured by the Luling are effectively nested to realize the goal of virtual and real presentation. The designed scientific visualization of deep-sea equipment can not only adapt to the display output of VR, mobile phones, TV, 360° showcase, and other platforms, but also achieve immersive experience and virtual simulation learning through HTC Vive VR equipment. The technology and design way of scientific visualization in this paper is universal and suitable to the same kind of engineering simulation.

Abstract:The technology of 3D geological modeling will bring about great changes in the methods of geological data acquiring, storing, processing and displaying. However, no perfect or convenient software systems have been developed up to now since the geologic data which reflect geological entities bear the feature of diversity, uncertainty and complexity. Some super voxel models, mathematical models of fault and geometrical models of fold have been contrived so as to show the space geometric configuration of the complicated geologic structures. The application-oriented system architecture for 3D geological modeling is established; and a novel design concept based on spatial data processing is also proposed with the technology of solid modeling as its core and the application of models as its objective. Theories and methods for 3D geological modeling will hopefully be enriched and developed. In the light of these theories and methods, a feature-based navigation visualization technique is also put forward in the paper. By integrating geo-database, graphics libraries and KBS with 3D dynamic simulation systems, geologists will be able to capture the partial characteristics and whole structure embodied in the geological data in a direct-viewing, figurative and accurate manner.

Abstract:As an important part of 3D GIS, 3D visualization modeling for geological body has great research values. Two key aspects of geological modeling are surface modeling and visualization. In this paper, a basic framework of geological modeling of 3D visualization is presented. Theory and procedure of surface modeling for geological body are expounded through an example of conditional Delaunay triangularization, and realization of visualization is discussed based on viewing transformation, blanking, illumination model, and texture mapping. Taking a copper deposit in western China as an example, 3D visualization geological models are established and analyzed after expounding the basic procedure and method of 3D visualization modeling.

Abstract:The paper brings forward a new method-3D visualization of geo lo gical interpretation of remote sensing images and image dynamical analysis for the regional geological survey,which integrates the roles of advanced technol ogies including3S(RS ,GIS and GPS)techniques,remote sensing image digit al pro-cessing,virtual reality and digital photographic measuration technique and so on.Based on this method,3D virtual images are created according to cer tain scales and fight routes.The method commendably solves practical problems for digital regional geological survey in altiplano and makes up for some de ficiency in the traditional regional geo-survey by a series of working procedu res such as RS orthophoto processing,data fusion of multi-types RS images, high precision DEM building and image synthesizing.

Three dimensional terrain is one of important factors of the natural scenes in virtual environment and it is also a significant composition of view system in virtual simulation field. Firstly, this paper describes the research content and research objectives of the large-scale terrain modeling. Secondly, it systematically analyses research methods and techniques of terrain modeling simplification algorithms in recent years, including static and dynamic simplification algorithm, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Finally, future research directions are discussed.

Abstract:3D geological modeling has become one of the most reliable and effective means of displaying geological structures, but most commercial software products for 3D geological modeling need special techniques and much pre-processing work as well as being expensive and complicated to operate. In this paper, a simple approach to building a 3D geological model is proposed, integrating such popular software packages as 3D Studio Max (3DSMax), ArcGIS, and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). The approach can be used to build accurate 3D geological structures and to model stratigraphy at almost any level of complexity. Moreover, the resulting model can be operated interactively, including zooming in or out, rotating and moving. The paper demonstrates how this new approach can be a very effective method for 3D geological modeling.

Abstract:The terrain visualization is an important component for terrain visualization expres-sion,virtual geographic environments and virtual reality.The paper focused on how to take the advantages of the Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and Digital Terrain Analysis(DTA) to en-hance terrain visualization.At the same time,the paper shows the terrain visualization map used different enhancement technology,which including the directly enhanced elevation,the three-dimensional shading based on slope and aspect,the details of carving techniques.With the enhanced terrain visualization expression effects,it can provide users with more intuitive and accurate cognitive terrain.

Abstract:With the rapid development of science and technology, marine resources are receiving increasing attention. However, due to the special nature of the marine environment, it is difficult to achieve autonomous marine protection as well as efficient management by human resources alone, which seriously restricts the exploration and development of marine resources. To address this need, the paper proposes an open simulation system for visualizing complex underwater environments based on Geographic Information System (GIS). The system firstly realizes the 3D visualization of underwater topography; secondly, the rendering of hydrographic data is realized in the front-end interface. The results show that the simulation system for the visual representation of complex underwater environment is more suitable for realistic scenarios, and in the process of obtaining effective marine data, it can effectively avoid the influence of disturbing factors such as turbid water and insufficient light.
