Abstract:Effects of quenching end-temperature on mechanical properties and microstructure of a ultra high strength steel after direct quenching and partitioning were investigated by means of scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, etc.The results show that with the quenching end-temperature increasing, the tensile strength decreases at first and then increases while the yield strength reduce. The impact energy and elongation firstly increase and then decrease with the quenching end-temperature increasing. The microstructure of the tested steel is mainly composed of the initial martensite, fresh martensite and retained austenite. The retained austenite fraction is the highest, which is 16%when quenched to 260℃, the tested steel obtained the best comprehensive mechanical properties with tensile strength of 1533 MPa, elongation of 16%, and -20 ℃impact energy of 26 J.The larger blocky fresh martensite has negative effect on plastic and toughness, and the impact energy and elongation is lowest when quenched to 300 ℃.
