Generation algorithm of intermediate geometric configuration for progressive die of complex automotive parts

Abstract:Forming of complex automotive progressive die parts requires multi forming processes. Except for the final geometric configuration of the product, the geometric configuration of the intermediate forming process is difficult to determine, and the design process is complicate and time-consuming. Therefore, an intermediate geometric configuration generation algorithm was proposed based on geometric deformation and stamping process. The algorithm consisted of intermediate reference surface unfolding algorithm and rotation unfolding algorithm. The former unfolding referred to datum plane, the expected intermediate shape was configured by the geometric transformation, and the intermediate geometric configuration was obtained by the finite element inverse algorithm to expand the predetermined region inversely. The final intermediate geometric configuration of the latter unfolding was obtained by connecting transformed profile smoothly through the segment of deformation surfaces according to features and process with different rotation axes for each section deformation surface. At last, for the stamping parts of complex automotive progressive die, the feasibility of the algorithm was verified. The results show that the proposed algorithm can realize the formation of intermediate geometric configuration for complex parts, and the high quality intermediate geometry configuration is obtained with high efficiency.
