Abstract:This paper analyzes the new demands of smart,grid modeling, including new power sources such as renewable energy, new electrical loads such as the electric vehicle and new network structures such as the self-healing grid. A new line of thought on future power system modeling is presented： element modeling will combine with holistic modeling, offline modeling will develop into online modeling, centralized modeling will develop into hierarchical modeling, entire system modeling will develop into subregional modeling, mechanism model will develop into hybrid model that combines the mechanism and nonmechanism model, and deterministic model will develop into stochastic model. Finally, specific research contents of modeling the renewable energy generation, the microgrid and the hybrid loads are discussed at length.

Abstract:Renewable energy and electric vehicles have become involved in power systems, which has attracted researchers to stochastic continuous disturbances (SDEs). This paper addresses stochastic analysis issues for the stability of a power system with losses under SDEs. Firstly, the quasi-Hamiltonian models of power systems with losses under SDEs are given. Secondly, a novel analytical method is proposed to analyze the stability of the power system with losses under SDEs based on the stochastic averaging method. Thirdly, comparisons of stability probability under different parameters are performed, from which insights to improve the stability probability of power systems with losses under SDEs can be obtained. Even though it is challenging to assess the stability of a power system with losses under SDEs, the proposed method in this paper could serve well in this regard.

Abstract:A simplified stochastic model considering stochastic excitation was developed for the study of the electromechanical transient process in power systems. First, stochastic models considering stochastic excitation were built for electromechanical transient processes in the one-machine infinite bus ( OMIB) system and the two-machine power system. Then, based on the EEAC theory, the stochastic models considering stochastic excitation for the multi-machine power system were deduced. The results show that under approximate conditions, the stochastic model of the multi-machine power system can be simplified as the model of the OMIB system, and the model parameters may be constant or time-varying according to different assumptions. The stochastic excitation may be considered the superposition of stochastic excitations that have different frequencies. Finally, simulations were performed. The simulation results show that, when affected by the stochastic excitation, the rotor angle curve exhibited regular oscillations with frequencies that were almost the same.

Abstract:According to the present status and the needs from the developments of power systems, the research tendencies of electric load modeling are pointed out in this paper. In the aspect of area scale, load modeling is developed from node scale to wide area. In the aspect of connotation, load modeling is developed from pure load to generalized load. In the aspect of model adaptation, load modeling is developed from small range to broad-spectrum. In the aspect of modeling methodologies, load modeling is developed from the single method to comprehensive methods. In the aspect of data resources, load modeling is developed from single data resource to multi data resources. Some detailed thoughts and proposals for load modeling research are also given in this paper.

Abstract:Power systems are the backbone of modern society, but high-impact and low-probability natural disasters pose unprecedented challenges to power systems in recent years. Power systems consist of generation, networks, and loads, which have their own characteristics. Different sectors need to various responses and strategies in the face of natural disasters. This paper presents a systematic review on power system resilience from four dimensions: (1) Impact analysis. In this dimension, typical disaster-related power outages are quantitatively analyzed, and the impacts of the events on the power systems from the perspective of generation/networks/loads are qualitatively analyzed. (2) Impact quantification. The quantification metrics of the impacts of different events on generation, networks, and loads are systematically reviewed. These systematical quantification metrics are essential prerequisites for resilience improvements. (3) Resilience improvement. Adaptation options from the component-level perspectives are first introduced, and then the optimal strategies from the system-level perspectives are presented. Various power sources have different power production characteristics against different kinds of natural disasters, and coordinated scheduling of different power sources is an effective means to improve generation resilience. System networks are important to bridge generation and loads, and they need to have strong resilience in the face of varying and uncertain impacts caused by natural disasters with system hardening, reconfiguration implementation, microgrid formulation, etc. Loads are becoming more smart and responsive, and these smart/responsive loads have outstanding potential regulating abilities for improving power system resilience. (4) Future research directions with regard to power system resilience improvements are discussed.

Abstract:The rapid development of the wide area measurement system(WAMS) offers a new technology for power system modeling.This paper presents a method through automatic post-disturbance simulation for power system load modeling based on WAMS data.Through the alternative interaction of particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm and mature time domain simulation program,the post-disturbance dynamic trajectory will be continually simulated and the load model parameters can be automatically optimized.In modeling,the required time of parameter identification and the dependence on artificial experience and manual operation are greatly reduced.The test results of an actual large-scale power system indicate the feasibility and validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:With the increase of the permeability of renewable energy generation in the power system, the frequency regulation capability of the system constantly deteriorates. Domestic and foreign scholars have proposed some control strategies for renewable energy generation such as wind turbines to actively participate in frequency regulation. However, current research on how to accurately evaluate the contribution of wind turbines to grid frequency regulation is insufficient. Therefore, a unified structural model is proposed to approximate the power response of various generating equipment in the grid under disturbance. Then, based on the unified structure, the common mode frequency trajectory of the system is analyzed and the frequency characteristics, including average rate of change of frequency and frequency nadir, are quantified, based on which the supporting effect of various equipment such as wind turbines on the frequency is evaluated. Finally, the effectiveness of the unified structure model and the proposed method for quantifying frequency characteristics is verified by simulation.

Abstract:In complex power grid, cascading failure that is triggered by some small disturbances can have global catastrophic effects over the entire networks, the theoretical modeling is the basic and key problem for the research on cascasding failures in complex power grid. On the basis of researching the mechanism of cascading failures occurred in power grids, the existing models for cascading failures in power gird are respectively presented and reviewed with the viewpoints of power system and complex network theory, and some feasible methods to prevent and control cascasding failures are analyzed. It is pointed out that the analysis and evaluation on network vulnerability will be the crux of the matter while the preclusive analysis of cascading failures is conducted. To control the failure spread the multi agent system (MAS) may be an effective approach. Finally, several research directions which are worth the whistle are proposed.

Abstract:With the penetrations of large-scale renewable energy, improving the simulation efficiency while reserving the interested dynamics is important for analysis of the power electornic-interfaced systems. In order to improve the simulation efficiency and carry out stability analysis of power electronic-interfaced systems, strcture-preserving reduced order methods are proposed. In these methods, the whole system is decoupled as fast and slow subsystems based on the singular perturbation theory, deriving the reduced order models of the whole system. These models can both achieve much improvement of simulation efficiency while analyze the stability of the whole system. Simulation results of a practical power system demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.

Abstract:With the development of informatization and intellectualization technology, the power system has become the cyber-physical power system (CPPS) with deep integration of the cyber side and the physical side. As the support system of smart grids with new forms and features, the CPPS considers the coupling relationship between the communication network and the physical power grid, and is a research hotspot in the field of smart grids. This paper provides an overview of the CPPS framework and describes the interaction between the communication network and the physical power grid. Then the mainstream modeling and simulation methods of CPPS are summarized, and the advantages and disadvantages of each method are pointed out. In the end, the paper looks forward to the possible research directions of CPPS in the future. The article provides researchers with different perspectives on the dynamic model and simulation methods of CPPS.

Abstract:With the rapid development of new power systems, various new power devices have also been developed. It is very important to establish analytical models of new power devices to ensure or even improve the reliability and stability of the power system. A linear phase-shifting transformer (LPST) is a new type of power device that mainly relies on air gaps to transfer energy, so establishing an accurate air-gap magnetic field model is very important for improving the efficiency of this system. In this paper, an analytical model of an unequal-pitch linear phase-shifting transformer (UP-LPST) was established by combining the distributed magnetic circuit method (DMCM) and Schwartz–Christopher transformation (SCT). Taking the magnetic field strength as a variable, an accurate magnetic field analysis model for a UP-LPST considering saturation, cogging, and edge was established. Taking a 1 kw UP-LPST as a prototype, the accuracy of the model was verified by the finite element method and experiments. This modeling method could also be used to establish magnetic field models of other similar structures in new energy power systems, especially those with cogging structures.

Abstract:In order to study the long-term frequency and voltage dynamics of interconnected power systems under cascading events,this paper suggests an appropriate mathematical model and its simulation algorithm with the network structure preserved.Similar to traditional dynamic power flow,the proposed model assumes that the system has survived the transient stability and has sufficient damping torque.Therefore,the relative swings among generator rotors in one area will be neglected in long-term dynamics;and each control area is recommended to have a uniform frequency,represented by its area center of inertia(COI),with a simulation of the long-term frequency and voltage dynamics and the investigation on its effective control strategies.Computer test results of the IEEE 3-area 30-bus system show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm.The proposed simulation tool can be used to study long-term frequency and voltage stability control of interconnected power systems.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the power industry, the safe and stable operation of the power system has become an important basis for safeguarding economic and social development. In order to adapt to the trend of rapid growth of new energy sources and the demand for transformation and upgrading of the power industry, the capacity allocation scheme of the power system needs to be constantly optimized and adjusted. To address the development planning of new power systems, a new power system development planning model based on two-layer planning is constructed, taking into account the operational output results of various types of units and the interaction between the configuration schemes. Through the analysis of the evolution of the power system in a region in the next 15 years, the development pattern of the new power system in different stages under the high, medium, and low scenarios of new energy development is optimally calculated to guide the development of the power system. The results show that the model can provide a quantitative reference for decision-making on energy policies and power strategies in the medium and long term.

Review of Study on Methodology of Security Regions of Power System

Abstract:The state of the arts on power-system security region methodology studies,that have been mainly done in Tianjin University,is to be concisely introduced.At first the stimulations on the study,the concepts and the definitions of security regions are given.Then three kinds of practical security regions of power system found up to now are presented.Among them the first one is practical dynamic security region(PDSR)in power injection space of pre-fault power system to guarantee transient stabil-ity,the second one is practical security region to guarantee static voltage stability in cut-set power flow space(CVSR)and the third one is practical security region to guarantee small disturbance stability related to Hopf bifurcation(PHSR)in power injec-tion space.They are based on the facts that the critical boundaries of stabilities can be approximately represented by hyper-planes,in engineering point of view.Such kinds of mathematic descriptions have significant superiorities as follows:they are able to develop direct methods of computing the boundaries of the security regions,to realize visualizations of the security re-gions,to reduce dramatically the computation burden of probabilistic security assessment of power system in case of considering the uncertainty of node power injections,as well as to overcome easily the difficulties in dealing with stability constraints for a series of optimization problems of power system.Based on the PDSR and CVSR,a visualization system and a probabilistic security monitoring system have been developed in Tianjin University,and some promising study results are obtained in various aspects such as optimal power flow,security synthesis control,risk assessment and control,and security pricing.

Abstract:The information physics system realizes the integration and interaction between them by the 3C technique. The application of scheduling automation, Substation Automation and Online Fault Recovery Technology Improves Emergency Response Capability, and Information Security issues are also embedded in the energy system. Power grid operation is facing more threats, and state space and failure scenarios are also more abundant, which poses new research needs and challenges for power system stability assessment. First, the physical interaction of information is analyzed. From the perspective of function, the CPPS hierarchy corresponds to the physical Electric power system, the information sub-station system and the main station system respectively. Then, taking the information node as the fault detection sample point, the chain fault model of the power information physical system is studied, and the abnormal response of the power information system is classified and identified, Finally, a failure response model and a failure recovery model are built. Finally, a simulation example is given for verification.

Abstract:<p>Driven by the demand for intermittent power generation, Energy Storage (ES) will be widely adopted in future electricity grids to provide flexibility and resilience. Technically, there are two classes of ES for storing low-carbon energy: Generation-Integrated Energy Storage (GIES) and non-GIES. GIES stores energy along with the transformation between the primary energy form (e.g., thermal energy) and electricity. Long-term Electrical Power System Models (LEPSMs) support analysis including decarbonization studies and energy technology assessments. Current LEPSMs are limited in describing the power system with ES (e.g., considering one type of ES and not considering GIES). Consequently, a novel LEPSM is needed, and this paper paves the way towards this goal by bringing together the literature on ES and LEPSMs. This paper provides a state-of-the-art review of LEPSMs and shows that (a) existing models are inadequate to address grids with a high percentage of renewables and ES; and (b) there is a challenge in integrating short-term temporal changes in LEPSMs due to model complexity and computational cost. Finally, this paper proposes a framework for long-term electrical power system modeling considering ES and low-carbon power generation, which we have named the long-term power flow electrical power system framework. The key features of this novel framework are its agent-based modeling of consumer behavior, scenario reduction for renewables, and power flow analysis.</p>

Abstract:A new concept of and an algorithm for analyzing the reliability of protection in power systems are proposed.The probability models according to different working conditions are set up,on the basis of which,this paper studies the technique of quantitatively analyzing the reliability of equipment based on the Markov model.The intactness degree is regarded as the criterion for the reliability of protection.Three different designs of protection are given to demonstrate the proposed techniques.The result is in agreement with the actual design.

Abstract:In the midst of clean, low-carbon and smart energy revolution, a high proportion of renewable energy integration will be one of the basic characteristics of future electric power system that leads to tremendous changes in the morphological changes.And it also introduces the morphological evolution of generation, transmission, distribution and load of the system as a whole.The topology evolution model and power forecasting method of the future electric power systems are reviewed.The elements of the electric power system morphology and driving model are described first.Then based on analyzing the development trend of high proportion renewable energy generations, a future power system morphological evolution model is proposed.Key scientific issues are concluded as: 1) morphological evolution mechanism of power system with a high proportion of renewable energy;2) power forecasting of complex multiple uncertainty operation scenarios.Suitable research framework is divided into four aspects and analyzed in detail.
