Abstract:In this paper, we propose an inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT)-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for coprime array, where both DOAs and power of the sources can be efficiently estimated with an increased number of degrees-of-freedom. Specifically, the IDFT is generalized to realize the transformation between the defined angular-spatial domain and the spatial domain. With such a relationship, the IDFT is directly implemented on the second-order virtual signals characterized by the angular-spatial frequencies, and it is proved that both the DOAs and the sources power can be estimated from the resulting spatial response. Meanwhile, the window method and the zero-padding technique are sequentially incorporated to alleviate the spectral leakage and improve the estimation accuracy, respectively. The direct IDFT solution presents a remarkably reduced computational complexity as compared to the existing algorithms exploiting coprime array, and the simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed DOA estimation algorithm.
DOA Estimation for Joint Sensing and Communication with Nonorthogonal Waveform

Abstract:In this paper, a virtual sensing matrix-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation method is proposed for the joint sensing and communication system. To maintain high communication rate, fully nonorthogonal communication waveforms are employed, which however, limit the virtual array derivation in the existing DOA estimation methods to achieve accurate estimation. To address this problem, we formulate a virtual sensing matrix from the estimated sensing channels, rather than directly constructing the virtual array from the received signals. As such, the reliance on the waveform orthogonality during virtual array derivation can be avoided. As a result, the DOAs of non-cooperative targets can be estimated by treating the virtual sensing matrix as the equivalent first-order observation matrix of an augmented virtual array and incorporating the subspace processing. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in both estimation accuracy and angular resolution.
Detection and identification of bad data in state estimation using fast decoupled orthogonal transformation

Abstract:Based on methods of hypothesis testing identification and measurement compensation, a new method is proposed to detect and identify bad data in state estimation using fast decoupled orthogonal transformation. This method fully utilizes the characteristics of fast decoupled orthogonal transformation. Row-oriented givens rotation of augmented measurement Jacobian matrix is used to calculate and update residual covariance matrix. When creating the set of suspect measurements, interaction of real measurements and reactive measurements is considered. Test results show that the proposed method can effectively detect and identify bad data.

Abstract:Conventional direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation methods for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) joint sensing and communication system normally pursue high estimation accuracy and resolution by imposing orthogonal waveforms. However, such operation results in a deterioration of communication performance. In this paper, we propose a nonorthogonal waveform assisted DOA estimation algorithm, where an augmented virtual array is derived by exploiting the nonorthogonal MIMO communication waveforms, while a high communication rate can still be maintained. To estimate the round-trip sensing channels of each subcarrier, we utilize the transmitted symbols as pilot symbols, and obtain all the channel coefficients with a minimum mean square error solver. A virtual channel matrix can be formulated with these channel coefficients, which can be regarded as the samples of an augmented virtual array. Based on that, the subspace processing can be conducted for DOA estimation with fully nonorthogonal waveforms. Furthermore, the rank deficiency property of the equivalent signal matrix of the virtual array is analyzed when the distance of targets are identical. To address the problem, a Toeplitz reconstruction method is proposed to restore the rank of the rank-deficient equivalent signal matrix for DOA estimation. Simulations show that the proposed nonorthogonal waveform assisted DOA estimation algorithm outperforms the conventional methods in terms of resolution and accuracy, while maintaining a satisfactory computational efficiency.

Abstract:The paper is dedicated to the multipath angle of arrival (AOA) estimation problem in millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G NR communication system. The case of a phased antenna array with a single digital port is considered. In this scenario, the conventional highly accurate subspace-based algorithms cannot be applied because of hardware restrictions. We proposed a novel subspace-based algorithm called power-based root minimal polynomial method (PR-MPM) that uses the spatial power spectrum to get an approximation of the signal correlation matrix. The power spectrum is measured via the conventional beam sweeping procedure over a finite number of directions. The efficiency of the proposed method is studied using the high-realistic ray-tracing-based channel model applied in mmWave IEEE 802.11ay standard. Simulation results show that AOAs can be precisely estimated using only single-port power measurement.

Abstract:Channel estimation is the basis of data demodulation and equalization in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology. On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of power line channel, the performance of estimation algorithm, is researched when dispersed pilot frequency technology is used. Because the anti-noise interference capability of this algorithm is weak, an improved algorithm to raise the estimation accuracy by truncating the length of impulse response in time domain is proposed. In the environment of power line channel it is proved that the proposed algorithm possesses good estimation performance.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating the angular parameters, i.e., the nominal angle-of-arrivals (AoAs) and angular spreads, of incoherently distributed sources using the phased-array equipped with a single RF chain. We first derive the approximate Fourier series of the received power. The coefficients can be expressed in closed form with the angular parameters. In the case of single source, this finding directly suggests the design of the low-complexity algorithm that performs spatial sampling and discrete Fourier transform to estimate the Fourier series coefficients, from which the nominal AoA and angular spread can be obtained successively. In the case of multiple sources, we focus on one source at one time, and the multiples sources are handled one by one. Based on the Fourier series expression, the power fitting approach is proposed to build the nonlinear least-squares problem. Then, the semi-exhaustive search algorithm is developed to find the solution, which gives the angular parameters of the target source. Additionally, the approximate Cramer-Rao bound is derived as benchmark. The numerical results demonstrate that in certain cases, the proposed methods can even outperform the existing method that uses fully-digital array.

Abstract:This paper proved that the instantaneous reactive power theory is essentially an orthogonal transformation and inverse transform in a 3-dimensional time-variant vector space by detailed mathematical deduction.With different orthogonal vectors,the theory can detect active or reactive current of any order and any sequence.Compared with traditional FFT algorithm,they are consistent in mathematical essence.The difference between the low-pass filter and the integrator results in their different real-time performance.Finally an improved FFT algorithm with low-pass filter is proposed in the paper.

Abstract:This study proposes an efficient Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm with Uniform Linear Array (ULA) for smart antenna systems in multipath environment. To cope with the coherent signals caused by multipath propagation, the proposed algorithm first exploits an extended covariance matrix, achieves the maximum singular vector for the information of the coherent signals. Finally the proposed algorithm constructs a Toeplitz matrix to resolve the coherent signals. In the case of DOA estimation for three coherent signals, at RMSE = 0.4, the proposed algorithm results in a gain improvement of about 3 dB over the Estimation of Signal Parameter via., Rotational Invariance Techniques (ESPRIT)-like algorithm and about 7.5 dB over the Forward Backward Spatial Smoothing (FBSS) algorithm. Theoretical results also demonstrate the proposed algorithm can resolve more coherent signals. © 2013 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

Abstract:Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is a crucial task in wireless communication and radar systems, with applications spanning beamforming, localization, and target tracking. Conventional methods often require high-resolution quantization, imposing challenges and complexities, particularly in large-scale antenna arrays. One-bit DOA estimation has emerged as a groundbreaking alternative, aiming to achieve accurate results without the need for high-resolution measurements. However, state-of-the-art approaches either require reconstruction of an unquantized covariance matrix or sparse signal recovery, or are based on restrictive assumptions such as the equality of power of signal sources. In this paper, a novel approach for direct one-bit DOA estimation is presented, overcoming the limitations of previous methods by introducing a generalized one-bit covariance matrix and smoothing it. Through analytical and numerical analyses, we reveal the shortcomings of the direct application of the one-bit covariance matrix, particularly in scenarios with unequal signal powers. Comparative simulations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach, especially in scenarios with significant signal-to-noise ratio differences and a limited number of snapshots.

A Novel Real-Time Detection of Orthogonal Transient Weak Elf Magnetic Signals

Abstract:Real-time detection of transient weak magnetic signals is a common problem in many areas, such as tracking of in-pipe robots by the transmitting and receiving of extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic signals, which is a critical issue related to the safety of pipelines and attracts special attention. Owing to the limit of transmitting power and interruption in open air as well as the mobility of the robot, the received ELF magnetic signals are relatively weak and transient, and are even as low as 10 pico-tesla, and the related SNR is as low as -3 dB.In this paper, a novel transient weak ELF magnetic signal detection method is proposed based on orthogonal search coil sensors. First, a Morlet wavelet is employed to model received orthogonal transient signals in which the envelope decay rate represents moving velocity. Second, a least square criterion is used to construct orthogonal signal energy statistic, then a one-to-one relationship between the envelope decay rate and the moving velocity is established. Third, the ternary decision tree method is developed to maximize orthogonal signal energy statistic and realize optimal real-time signal detection under the Newman-Pearson criterion.The simulation and the experimental results both show that the detection performance is quite close to the theoretical upper boundary, and the developed instruments based on the orthogonal search coil sensors are effective in real-time tracking.
Channel estimation algorithm for orthogonal space-time coded continuous phase modulation systems

Abstract:A data-aided channel estimation algorithm was proposed for a burst-mode orthogonal space-time coded continuous phase modulation (OSTC-CPM) system over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. This algorithm mainly uses the waveform orthogonality of space-time coded modulation systems with two transmit antennas and multiple receive antennas. Each receive antenna multiplies the received signal by the known training sequence which corresponding to one of the two transmit antennas; then the product is delayed for one symbol interval, and added together with the current signal; finally, the fading coefficient of the corresponding channel can be obtained by dividing the energy of the training sequence. Analytical variance of the estimation declines linearly by increasing the bit signal-to-noise ratio for the proposed channel estimator. The effects of training sequence length, over-sampling ratio, and different pulse shaping filters were investigated. Simulation results matched the theoretical analysis. Compared with the known channel, the difference of bit error rate (BER) was less than 0.2 dB. Therefore, this algorithm is appropriate for OSTC-CPM systems over quasi static Rayleigh fading channels.
Frequency Offset Estimation Based on Peak Power Ratio in LTE System

Abstract:Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the key techniques for long term evolution (LTE) system. Frequency offset estimation of OFDM is an essential issue. Especially in the high-speed environment, the frequency offset will become large. Based on the features of LTE uplink physical random access channel (PRACH), this paper proposes a new frequency offset algorithm by using peak power ratio to enlarge the range of frequency offset estimation. According to the relation between frequency offset and the power delay profile (PDP), the ratio of the peak power of the PDP at the main window to that at the negative window or positive window is utilized to estimate frequency offset. Simulation results show that the new proposed algorithm extends the estimation range of frequency offset from 1 000 Hz to 1 250 Hz. Meanwhile the accuracy of frequency offset estimation is almost not lost. Particularly in low signal noise ratio (SNR), the new algorithm has lower mean square error (MSE) compared with traditional phase differential algorithm.

Abstract:The high-resolution and high-accuracy performance of direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms are adversely affected by multiple radiation sources with low SNR. These sources experience significant overlap in the time domain, aliasing in the frequency domain, and a dense distribution in the spatial domain. To address this issue, an innovative signal model for the polarization-sensitive array is proposed, which leverages the spatial polarization characteristics of the electromagnetic wave radiated by the transmitting antenna. Specifically, the proposed signal model focuses on the direction finding of the desired signal under active deception decoys with consistent co-polarization. The influence of one interference signal in the mixed signal can be eliminated by utilizing the time domain characteristics along with oblique projection technology based on this signal model. Subsequently, by using the co-polarization characteristics of the jamming signals, the influence of the other interference signals in the mixed signal can be effectively eliminated. The proposed algorithm estimates the closely spaced signals separately, which significantly reduces the influence of multiple radiation sources and enhances the resolution capability. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed method has a high-resolution performance. Particularly, when employing an angular interval of 5°, the correct resolution probability of the proposed method increases by approximately 5% and 20% for scenarios involving two and three active jamming signals, respectively. The reliability of the proposed signal model and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm are further validated by microwave anechoic chamber experiments and practical environmental tests.

Abstract:This letter presents a tensor-based joint AoA and ToF estimation method using the channel state information for Wi-Fi systems. Our method can mitigate the estimation error caused by the signal phase offset and noise interference using linear regression and discrete wavelet transform, respectively. Moreover, the Cramer-Rao lower bound for joint AoA and ToF estimation is derived for performance evaluation. Finally, Wi-Fi measurements are taken in indoor scenarios, and the numerical results show that the proposed method can reduce the estimation errors by more than 20% in comparison with existing algorithms.
Detection of ECG QRS Wave Using Fast Arithmetic of Orthogonal Wavelet Transforms

Abstract:Objective: Research the veracity、anti-jamming and real time of ECG QRS detection based on wavelet transform, demonstrate the feasibility of application to real project. Method: After comparing the different veracity of wavelet detective, we adopt a QRS wave detection arithmetic based on 3-order B-Spline wavelet transforms. In the processing, we use the fast arithmetic of discrete binary wavelet transforms-Mallat arithmetic. After detecting the peak of R wave in scale 23, using the relationship between wavelet transforms and signal singularity point, we detect the begin and the end of QRS wave in scale 21. The begin and the end of QRS wave correspond to a pair of modulus maxima with opposite sign, the R wave correspond to the zero-crossing of wavelet transform between this pair of modulus maxima. In the end, we analyse the veracity、the ability of anti-jamming and the rate of this arithmetic through American MIT/BIH ECG database. Result: This method has a relatively high detective veracity, upwards of 99% . This method has a high tolerance to familiar ECG signal disturbance like electromyography、industrial frequency、base-line excursion. It would not influence the detection of QRS even the ECG sequence with serious base-line excursion、high frequency、industrial frequency and electromyography disturbanc. Besides, 3-order B-Spline wavelet filter has a small quantity of coefficient, that improve the calculate speed. It takes 0.2 s~0.3 s to analyse 11.4 seconds long sampling data, and it's real time effect is quite evidence. Conclusion: The characteristic of this arithmetic can satisfy the application in real project.

Abstract:An effective method for estimating the DOAs of incoming signals using three orthogonal sensors is proposed. First, the channel impulse response vectors of the three sensors are estimated, then all of the corresponding propagation delays and amplitude weights of the three sensors' channels can be obtained. By comparing the propagation delays of the three sensors' channels, we can identify the same signal replica, then its DOA can be estimated through the relationship of the three corresponding amplitude weights. Simulation results show this method can reach fairly high accuracy, and it needs only three sensors.

Abstract:The development of communication and radar fusion systems is critical to enhancing sensor network security. However, in spectrum resource environments, the technology for processing fusion signals may face limitations due to multi-user access and interference issues. Traditional signal processing algorithms may also be influenced by waveform information. As a result, its implementation is limited in low-noise-ratio settings. Based on the advantages of multiple-input multiple-output technology in the field of communication and radar, in order to better ensure the non-interference between the communication and radar systems, the study introduces the orthogonal theory. It proposes a target detection and parameter estimation method based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology in the signal modulation domain. It utilizes sparse tensor theory to obtain low rank features of signals, transform the dimensions of target parameter problems, and solve tensor rank 1 approximation problems. This can better improve the performance of target parameter estimation. The simulation analysis of the proposed method shows that the average error values of the improved decomposition method in Doppler frequency shift estimation and angle estimation are close to 10–2 and 10–1 respectively. The system runs for less than 5 seconds, and its average target detection accuracy exceeds 96%. The proposed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing technique can provide technical support for sensor networks in wireless communication and IOT networks, efficiently reducing computational complexity and interference among users. This can serve as a valuable reference for enhancing the security of communication radar fusion systems.

Abstract:Time–frequency (TF) analysis can improve the performance of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation by only utilizing the valid TF points in the TF plane. However, when instantaneous frequencies (IFs) interact with each other in a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the DOA estimation performance will degrade because of the difficulty in extracting valid TF points or IF ridges. We propose a novel method that adopts the unified general parameterized TF transform (GPTFT) with multiple sensors considering the sparseness of the signal in the angle domain to deal with severe situations in this article. First, a unified parameterized TF representation is proposed to enhance the ability to extract the IFs. Based on the sparseness of the signal in the angle domain, an evaluation of IF candidates is employed to select the most reliable IF candidate in GPTFT, which makes it more robust and accurate. With a specific IF, intrinsic chirp component decomposition (ICCD) in multiple channels is employed to derive the single-source signal and DOA can be estimated at last. The proposed method can solve the situation where IFs are complex in the TF plane and sources are close-spaced. Compared with the short-time Fourier transform and GPTFT, the energy ratio of the proposed method in the real IF band is increased by 12.17% and 6.79%, respectively. The proposed method exhibits a higher accuracy in DOA estimation in comparison with conventional methods when dealing with close-spaced and nonstationary sources. Simulations in different configurations of parameters are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation is a promising technique for the next-generation communications in high-mobility scenarios. However, in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain, the received signals suffer from a decrease in power due to the non-coherent superposition of all symbols transmitted through wireless channels. To address this issue, this paper proposes the incorporation of an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) to assist the transmission for the OTFS systems, and jointly designs the OTFS frame structure and IRS phase shifts to achieve a coherent combination of the received signals. To address the problem of outdated channel state information in high-mobility systems, we propose a location-aided channel estimation strategy at the IRS. Additionally, to mitigate the adverse effects of the fractional Doppler shifts, a delay and shifted-Doppler domain-based channel estimation method is designed at the base station. By utilizing the well-designed OTFS frame structure and IRS phase shifts, we propose a low-complexity iterative interference cancellation (IIC) detector, and analyze the lower bound for its symbol error probability. To provide a clear understanding for the process of the considered systems, we describe a two-stage transmission protocol. Finally, the numerical results are provided to evaluate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed estimation methods and IIC detector.
