Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the interesting multiperiodicity of discrete-time neural networks with excitatory self-connections and distributed delays. Due to self-excitation of neurons, we construct 2 N close regions in state space for N-dimensional networks and attain the coexistence of 2 N periodic sequence solutions in these close regions. Meanwhile we estimate exponential attracting domain for each periodic sequence solution and apply our results to discrete-time analogues of periodic or autonomous neural networks. Under self-excitation of neurons, numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:The existing approaches to the multistability and multiperiodicity of neural networks rely on the strictly excitatory self-interactions of neurons or require constant interconnection weights. For periodically oscillated discrete-time neural networks (DTNNs), it is difficult to discuss multistable dynamics when the connection weights are periodically oscillated around zero. By using transient excitatory self-interactions of neurons and sigmoidal nonlinearities, we develop an approach to investigate multiperiodicity and attractivity of periodically oscillated DTNNs with time-varying and distributed delays. It shows that, under some new criteria, there exist multiplicity results of periodic solutions which are locally or globally exponentially stable. Computer numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the new theories.

Abstract:Global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point of bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with continuously distributed delays is studied. Under two mild assumptions on the activation functions, two sufficient conditions ensuring global stability of such networks are derived by utilizing Lyapunov functional and some inequality analysis technique. The results here extend some previous results. A numerical example is given showing the validity of our method.

Abstract:In this paper, a six-neuron BAM neural network model with discrete delays is considered. Using the global Hopf bifurcation theorem for FDE due to Wu [Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 350 (1998) 4799–4838] and the Bendixson's criterion for high-dimensional ODE due to Li and Muldowney [On Bendixson' criterion, J. Differential Equations 106 (1994) 27–39], a set of sufficient conditions for the system to have multiple periodic solutions are derived when the sum of delays is sufficiently large.

Abstract:The time delays in neural networks come from the transformation of the information processing between neurons. To consider delay-induced dynamics in neural networks, the four neurons are coupled to model a called bidirectional associative memory neural network. If the transformation time is distinct in the two direction, then two delays occurs in the model. a simple but efficient method is first introduced and then the delay-induced Hopf bifurcation is investigated and the periodic approximate solution derived from the Hopf bifurcation is obtained analytically. It can be seen that theoretical prediction is in good agreement with the result from the numerical simulation, which shows that the provided method is valid. The results show also that the method has higher accuracy than the center manifold reduction (CMR) with norm form theory.

Abstract:A delay-differential equation, modeling a bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network with five neurons, is considered. Some results of synchronization and bifurcation are exhibited. By Lyapunov functional methods, some sufficient conditions for the absolute synchronization of the system and global attractivity of the trivial solution are established. This synchronization is independent of the size of time delay. Furthermore, delay-induced synchronized periodic solution is given analytically, as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for the synchronized periodic solution by perturbation-incremental scheme (PIS). The main difference in this paper from previous works in the literatures is that delay-induced synchronization is studied quantitatively. Theoretical results are illustrated with numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper considers the global exponential stability (GES) of high-order bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with proportional delays. Here, proportional delays are unbounded time-varying delays, which are different from constant delays, bounded time-varying delays and distributed delays. Through variable transformations, the original system can be transformed equivalently into high-order BAM neural networks with multi-constant delays and time-varying coefficients. By utilizing Brouwer's fixed point theorem and constructing appropriate delay differential inequalities, new sufficient criteria are established to guarantee the existence, uniqueness and GES of the equilibrium point for the considered model. Finally, two examples with numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Abstract:The stability of the equilibrium point of bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with delays is studied by constructing a suitable Lyapunov. functional and combining with some inequality analysis techniques. On the assumption that the activation functions of neurons are less restrictive than those in the literature (which may not satisfy Lipschitz condition), a new sufficient condition ensuring the global asymptotic stability of BAM neural networks with delays is derived. The results presented here can be applied to the design of a wider class of neural networks including non-Lipschitz activation functions of neurons.

Abstract:Studies on the stability of the equilibrium points of continuous bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network have yielded many useful results. A novel neural network model called standard neural network model (SNNM) is advanced. By using state affine transformation, the BAM neural networks were converted to SNNMs. Some sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of continuous BAM neural networks were derived from studies on the SNNMs' stability. These conditions were formulated as easily verifiable linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), whose conservativeness is relatively low. The approach proposed extends the known stability results, and can also be applied to other forms of recurrent neural networks (RNNs).

Abstract:This paper studies global exponential stability (GES) of discrete-time (D-T) BAM neural networks (BAMNNs) affected by impulses and time-varying delays. An impulse-free D-T BAMNN with time-varying delays is first developed via the properties of M-matrices, and then the relation between the solutions of the original and new BAMNNs is established. From which, sufficient conditions for GES of the original BAMNN are derived by investigating GES conditions of the new BAMNN based on the counter-evidence and the nature of the nonsingular M-matrix. The results of illustrative examples show that the obtained GES criteria are effective. By comparing with previous results, this paper has the following three merits: (a) the obtained GES criteria are to check the positivity of eigenvalues of a constant matrix, which is easy to realize; (b) this method can be used for other D-T system models affected by impulses and time-varying delays; and (c) the numerical results show that our method is less conservative than ones in other literatures.

Abstract:In this paper, the existence and the global exponential stability of anti-periodic solution for competitive neural networks with delays in the leakage terms are investigated on time scales which unifies the continuous-time and the discrete-time competitive neural networks under the same framework. Firstly, the existence of anti-periodic solution is discussed by using the method of coincidence degree and M-matrices. Then some sufficient conditions are obtained to guarantee the global exponential stability of anti-periodic solution for such neural networks. The obtained results are new and improve some earlier publications. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this study, bidirectional fractional-order BAM neural networks with time-varying delays are examined. Time delay is an important phenomenon in the implementation of a signal or effect passing through neural network. Signal transmission in neural networks can generally be described as an anti-periodic process. Our aim is to show global asymptotic stability and the uniqueness of the equilibrium point for such neural networks in the problem with antiperiodic solution.For this purpose, the proof was made using differential inequality theory, basic analysis information, and the Lyapunov functional method. In addition, a numerical example is presented to verify the theoretical results.

Without assuming bounded conditions on these activation functions, we establish some sufficient conditions on the existence and global exponential stability of almost periodic solutions for Cohen-Grossberg neural networks on time scales. Abstract:A bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network with four neurons and two discrete delays is considered to represent an analytical method, namely, perturbation-incremental scheme (PIS). The expressions for the periodic solutions derived from Hopf bifurcation are given by using the PIS. The result shows that the PIS has higher accuracy than the center manifold reduction (CMR) with normal form for the values of time delay not far away from the Hopf bifurcation point. In terms of the PIS, the necessary and sufficient conditions of synchronized periodic solution arising from a Hopf bifurcation are obtained and the synchronized periodic solution is expressed in an analytical form. It can be seen that theoretical analysis is in good agreement with numerical simulation. It implies that the provided method is valid and the obtained result is correct. To the best of our knowledge, the paper is the first one to introduce the PIS to study the periodic solution derived from Hopf bifurcation for a 4-D delayed system quantitatively.

Abstract:Delayed dynamical system plays a vital role in describing the dynamical phenomenon of neural networks. In this article, we proposed a class of new BAM neural networks involving time delay. The traits of solution and bifurcation behavior of the established BAM neural networks involving time delay were probed into. First, the existence and uniqueness is discussed using a fixed point theorem. Second, the boundedness of solution of the formulated BAM neural networks involving time delay was analyzed by applying an appropriate function and inequality techniques. Third, the stability peculiarity and bifurcation behavior of the addressed delayed BAM neural networks were investigated. Fourth, Hopf bifurcation control theme of the formulated delayed BAM neural networks was explored by virtue of a hybrid controller. By adjusting the parameters of the controller, we could control the stability domain and Hopf bifurcation onset, which was in favor of balancing the states of different neurons in engineering. To verify the correctness of gained major outcomes, computer simulations were performed. The acquired outcomes of this article were new and own enormous theoretical meaning in designing and dominating neural networks.

Abstract:Based on m -norm, this paper investigates global exponential synchronization (GES) for BAM memristive neural networks (BAMMNNs) with mixed delays and reaction–diffusion (RD) terms. Different from the existing literatures, this paper discusses the GES of the NNs based on a new integral inequality with infinite distributed delay. This method is based on inequality technique and comparison principle, which makes the form of Lyapunov function and controller more simple. Next, by introducing two different control strategies and the concept of driven response, two sufficient conditions are got to ensure GES of the proposed system. It is noteworthy that the results obtained by algebraic inequality are extension of the previous conclusions. Finally, two instances verify the correctness of the conclusions.

Abstract:In the present paper, we investigate both the global exponential stability and the existence of a periodic solution of a general differential equation with unbounded distributed delays. The main stability criterion depends on the dominance of the non-delay terms over the delay terms. The criterion for the existence of a periodic solution is obtained with the application of the coincide degree theorem. We use the main results to get criteria for the existence and global exponential stability of periodic solutions of a generalized higher-order periodic Cohen-Grossberg neural network model with discrete-time varying delays and infinite distributed delays. Additionally, we provide a comparison with the results in the literature and a numerical simulation to illustrate the effectiveness of some of our results.

Abstract:In this paper, a class of recurrent neural networks with discrete and continuously distributed delays is considered. Sufficient conditions for the existence, uniqueness, and global exponential stability of a periodic solution are obtained by using contraction mapping theorem and stability theory on impulsive functional differential equations. The proposed method, which differs from the existing results in the literature, shows that network models may admit a periodic solution which is globally exponentially stable via proper impulsive control strategies even if it is originally unstable or divergent. Two numerical examples and their computer simulations are offered to show the effectiveness of our new results.
