Abstract:While the security of blockchain has been the central concern of both academia and industry since the very start, new security threats continue to emerge, which poses great risks to the blockchain ecosystem.A systematic study was conducted on the most state-of-the-art research on potential security issues of blockchain.Specifically, a taxonomy was developed by considering the blockchain framework as a four-layer system, and the analysis on the most recent attacks against security loopholes in each layer was provided.Countermeasures that can strengthen the blockchain were also discussed by highlighting their fundamental ideas and comparing different solutions.Finally, the forefront of research and potential directions of blockchain security were put forward to encourage further studies on the security of blockchain.

Abstract:Being an important part of Information System, Database Security has absorbed much attention fordecades. First, we bring forth the Database Security's contents, properties of data: sensitivity, integrity and availabil-ity. Several access control models to guarantee these properties are described in this paper. Due to the challengesbrought by advanced DBMSs such as OODBMS and ADBMS, we also discuss some security topics in these fields. Atthe end of this paper, the encryption control and inference control are reviewed together with some trend of thedatabase security technology in the future.

Abstract:Database watermarking,which embeds implicit and un-removable marks in database through the method of signal processing,reaches the aim of protecting the database security without damaging the content and usability of database.This paper overviews the state-of-the-art in database watermarking,analyzes the principle of watermarked database system,summarizes the main algorithms of database watermarking and common attacks to it,introduces the latest progress of database watermarking,and looks ahead its future development.

Abstract:Nowadays,there are a lot of researches on protecting the privacy of users because the database systems are suffering more and more disclosure of privacy information.In this paper,the state-of-the-art of database privacy protection is overviewed,methods of privacy protection including user authentication,access control,and inference control are analyzed,and the latest progresses are introduced.Furthermore,privacy protections in data mining and future researches on database privacy protection are discussed.A conclusion is drawn at the end of this paper that it is critical to trade off the security and the availability to build a privacy protected database.

Abstract:Researchers on security database concern more and more the security threats from DBA(database administrator),for its resulting in increasing crime to internet commercial databases which exist in the mode of ASP(Application service provider) recently,and its theoretic and technical hardness.Traditional access control could not provide enough security for the purpose,cryptographic security database becomes a promising scheme favored by its computing complexity of mathematical difficulties.We analyse various and up to date security threats to distributed database application systems,and give an overview for cryptographic access control and encryption database technology.Each class and approach is described and evaluated with its cryptographic principle,algorithm characters and positive and negative performance.We focus on the term of cryptanalysis of the schemes,which is considered the crucial points of the technology.

Abstract:With the development of network and information technologies, information security is more and more widely researched in China. To know where the work is and where it goes, we focus on comprehensively surveying the twenty years of important fundamental research by Chinese scholars, and giving, from our point of view, the significance as well as the outlook of future work. Some of the reviewed work, including the researches on fundamental theory of cryptography, cryptographic algorithm, security protocol, security infrastructure and information hiding, greatly advances the related sub-fields, and is highly recognized in and outside of China. Nevertheless, the overall work, we think, is still facing the problems of unbalanced development of sub-areas, limited scope of research, lack of systematic work and application, etc., leaving much room for improvement in the near future.

Abstract:The study on database technologies, or more generally, the technologies of data and information management, is an important and active research field. Recently, many exciting results have been reported. In this fast growing field, Chinese researchers play more and more active roles. Research papers from Chinese scholars, both in China and abroad, appear in prestigious academic forums.In this paper, we, nine young Chinese researchers working in the United States, present concise surveys and report our recent progress on the selected fields that we are working on. Although the paper covers only a small number of topics and the selection of the topics is far from balanced, we hope that such an effort would attract more and more researchers, especially those in China, to enter the frontiers of database research and promote collaborations. For the obvious reason, the authors are listed alphabetically, while the sections are arranged in the order of the author list.

Abstract:The importance of security in database research has greatly increased over the years as most of critical functionality of the business and military enterprises became digitized. Database is an integral part of any information system and they often hold sensitive data. The security of the data depends on physical security, OS security and DBMS security. Database security can be compromised by obtaining sensitive data, changing data or degrading availability of the database. Over the last 30 years the information technology environment have gone through many changes of evolution and the database research community have tried to stay a step ahead of the upcoming threats to the database security. The database research community has thoughts about these issues long before they were address by the implementations. This paper will examine the different topics pertaining to database security and see the adaption of the research to the changing environment. Some short term database research trends will be ascertained at the conclusion.

Abstract:We briefly introduce the special characteristics of database security in information warfare and related researches, then emphasis the importance of antagonizing, malicious DBMS in information warfare. This paper suggests a threat model for malicious DBMS by carefully analyzing the possible security threats by malicious DBMS, then a database security architecture capable of antagonizing the malicious DBMS is proposed based on this threat model and the special requirements of critical applications in China. It can greatly improve the critical application's capability to antagonize malicious DBMS by incorporating, self-controlled authentication, principal / object mapping, transparent attribute encryption / decryption, attribute / tuple level mandatory access control, and parallel structure of multiple DBMSs.

Abstract:In recent years, we have witnessed an upsurge in cyber-attacks and data breach incidents that put tremendous data at risk, affect millions of users, and cause severe economic losses. As an in-depth defence to counter the persistent and pervasive security threats, maintaining data in always encrypted form is becoming a trend and even a regulatory requirement. Satisfying the demand is particularly challenging in the context of databases, which, as a pillar in modern computing infrastructure, provide indispensable means to organize, store and retrieve data at different scales. The difficulty lies in how to perform the database query processing over encrypted data while meeting the requirements of security, performance, and complex query functions. This field has grown tremendously over the past two decades, though there is no dominant solution that is universally applicable. Solutions based on cryptographic techniques, e.g., searchable encryption or property-preserving encryption, can efficiently provide certain primitive operations for database queries. But studies have shown that their allowed leakage profiles can be (sometimes highly) exploitable. The recent advent of secure hardware enclaves opens up new opportunities. Yet, the first few enclave-based proposals mostly explore extreme design points that rest on strong assumptions (e.g., huge enclave) or result in weak security (e.g., leaking relations of ciphertexts). In this talk, we will overview these latest advancements and the potential challenges, respectively, and discuss the possible roadmap ahead towards practically more secure, efficient and functional encrypted databases.
