A Real-time Identification Method Based on Static-dynamic Optical Flow Features for Deep-sea Hydrothermal Plumes

Abstract:The shapes of deep-sea hydrothermal plumes are complex and changes dynamically in real time. In order to identify them more accurately and quickly, it is necessary to realize the comprehensive utilization of static frame information of hydrothermal plume sequence images and dynamic information between consecutive frames. In this paper, on the one hand, by studying the texture, color, shape and other characteristics of the hydrothermal plume, this paper extracts more comprehensive static characteristics and improves the recognition accuracy. On the other hand, due to the turbulent characteristics of the hydrothermal buoyancy plume, the direction has a specific consistency, and its motion vector basically shows a trend of upward and outward diffusion. By improving the method of analyzing all suspicious areas, only the suspected areas are The optical flow vector analysis is carried out on the contour, and the dynamic characteristics are extracted to reduce the calculation amount. Finally, combined with static and dynamic texture features, a two-class classification study is carried out to achieve efficient and rapid identification of unstructured and moving hydrothermal buoyancy plumes. The algorithm is verified by laboratory experiments and high-definition video of real deep-sea hydrothermal vents.
Gas-liquid Two-Phase Flow Pattern Identification Based on Image Processing

Abstract:A new method was developed for identifying flow pattern automatically and accurately. Flow images were captured by a high speed charge couple device (CCD). The characteristics of binary images, such as area, width, height and center coordinates of bubbles were obtained using image processing techniques.Then, a fuzzy reasoning method was used to identify the flow pattern. Experimental results showed that the method is effective for identifying the basic flow patterns in a horizontal pipe. The identification accuracy was as follows: bubbly flow, 93.3%; plug flow, 85.3%; stratified or wavy flow, 97.3%; slug flow, 98.6%; annular flow, 92.7%. An estimation of the process time was 22 frame/s.
Optical Flow Based Obstacle Detection in Static Environment

Abstract:Since the common approaches for estimating the time-to-contact employ the first order derivatives of the optical flow,such methods have the drawback of being sensitive to error in the estimates of optical flow.Based on the assumption that the robot was moving on a locally planar ground,a novel method for estimating the time-to-contact of obstacle was presented.Scale invariant feature transform(SIFT) matching of features between the image sequences captured from monocular camera was firstly applied.Then,the homography for the planar ground was robustly estimated based on the random sample consensus(RANSAC) algorithm,and the optical flow was estimated.After that,the time-to-contact was recovered and the obstacle map was finally constructed.Since the computation of the first order derivatives of optical flow is completely avoided,this method is robust to image noise.Experimental results of indoor and outdoor scenes show that the method can effectively detect obstacles based on the recovered time-to-contact.

Abstract:A novel multi-exposure images fusion method for dynamic scenes is proposed. The commonly used techniques for high dynamic range (HDR) imaging are based on the combination of multiple differently exposed images of the same scene. The drawback of these methods is that ghosting artifacts will be introduced into the final HDR image if the scene is not static. In this paper, a super-pixel grouping based method is proposed to detect the ghost in the image sequences. We introduce the zero mean normalized cross correlation (ZNCC) as a measure of similarity between a given exposure image and the reference. The calculation of ZNCC is implemented in super-pixel level, and the super-pixels which have low correlation with the reference are excluded by adjusting the weight maps for fusion. Without any prior information on camera response function or exposure settings, the proposed method generates low dynamic range (LDR) images which can be shown on conventional display devices directly with details preserving and ghost effects reduced. Experimental results show that the proposed method generates high quality images which have less ghost artifacts and provide a better visual quality than previous approaches.

Abstract:Dynamic textures are sequences of images of moving scenes that exhibit certain stationarity properties in time, for example, sea-waves, smoke, foliage, whirlwind etc. This work proposed a novel characterization of dynamic textures that poses the problems of recognizing. A method by spatio-temporal multiresolution histogram based on velocity and acceleration fields is presented. The spatio-temporal multiresolution histogram has many desirable properties including simple computing, spatial efficiency, robustness to noise and ability of encoding spatio-temporal dynamic information, which can reliably capture and represent the motion properties of different image sequences. Velocity and acceleration fields of different spatio-temporal resolution image sequences are accurately estimated by structure tensor method. We describe a simple matching algorithm based on multiresolution histogram, which measure difference between two sequences.

Abstract:The method of image recognition and analysis has become an important means of two-phase flow research. Through the bubble evolution pictures obtained in the two-phase flow experimental device, the generation dynamic threshold image processing method is adopted to reduce the impact of image environment changes, and the appropriate threshold is automatically obtained for image segmentation. The gray level and spatial position information of point pixels are introduced to avoid large distortion of specific images, automatically identify the relevant parameters of bubble flow, deduce the bubble size and group distribution from the measured data, and analyze the bubble characteristics. Iterative dynamic threshold image processing method is complex, but it has strong anti-noise ability. It has a good recognition effect for images that are not easy to be segmented by global threshold.

Abstract:Owing to the difference in physical and chemical properties, the liquid drops' growth states are dissimilar to different liquids under same conditions. And this drop growth difference to various liquids is embodied in the corresponding drop's contour feature obviously. Thus the liquid identification method based on CCD imaging system will be introduced in detail in this paper. Through experiments to different liquids, the region area, boundary girth, drop length, drop plumpness, drop circularity, and the profile edge of the liquid drop image will be extracted and analyzed. And with these information the liquid identification can be realized. From sample experiments the region area and the drop plumpness is more effective than other parameters in liquid discrimination. And the boundary girth and drop length difference is very small to some liquids, thus they are the realitive weaker character to liquid drops.
Camera Pose Estimation in Dynamic Scenes with Background Tracking

Abstract:This paper presents a method for robustly estimating camera pose in dynamic scenes. The main contribution of it is to use a background tracking method to ensure the accurately tracking of the moving background, thus to increase the robustness of the camera pose estimation. It has three innovations over existing methods. First, it uses a fast model initialization method to get the sparse model of the background; Second, it utilizes the newly developed 3-D motion segmentation method to segment the consecutive frames into different motions and uses an on-line model updating method to track the sparse model of the background; Third, it employs a model selection method to effectively connect the dynamic scenes with static scenes for an accurate estimation result. The method is tested on synthetic data and real-world image sequences and results show that it outperforms the existing methods. © 2013 IFSA.
Dynamic Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Depth Information

Abstract:Dynamic hand gesture is consisted by hand movement trajectory and the changes of hand shape. However, some existing methods only focus on the trajectory, and those methods can not accurately recognize the gesture that has the similar trajectory but different hand shape changes. For this problem, a dynamic hand gesture recognition method that combines the trajectory with the hand shape is proposed in this paper. First, we use depth images to determine the hand region and extract the location of palm center, avoiding the effect of lighting condition and complex environment. The absolute position and relative position of the palm center is adopted to represent the trajectory. Next, we present a method which combines convex hull with k-curvature to detect the fingertips contour, which can be a better representation of the hand shape change in dynamic gestures. Then we solve the image blurring problem by voting strategy. Besides, the Temporal Pyramid algorithm is applied to process the extracted features, since it can express temporal features more delicately and unify different feature dimensions. Finally, SVM algorithm is utilized to classify the dynamic hand gesture. The experimental results show that our method has higher recognition rate with less time consuming than the compared methods.
On-line detection of foreign substances in glass bottles filled with transfusion solution through computer vision

Abstract:In this paper, a real time computer vision system was developed to detect a glass bottle filled with transfusion solution on a packing line. The theory, the mechanical structure, and the detection algorithm are described. Foreign substances mixed in transfusion solution are distinguished from bottle side wall defects by a relative movement between a resting bottle and the inside moving solution. Foreign objects moving down in the bottle are first detected with background subtracting, where a normalized cross correlation is employed to identify two frames between which no moving objects overlap and the static back-ground is obtained through an inter-frame difference. In the second stage, falling objects are recognized through an adapted mean-shift tracker, in which an adaptive searching window is used to only find falling objects. The system was tested on 250-ml transfusion bottles. The result shows that it can effectively detect the small visible foreign substances fulfilling the requirements of the application..
Vision-Driven Dynamic Texture Recognition for Light Bar Intelligent Assembly Process

Abstract:During the production and assembly process of televisions, the efficiency of assembly is limited by manual assembly methods. Conventional image matching algorithms such as SIFT and ORB fail to meet the real-time accuracy requirements of intelligent assembly processes. To address this issue, a novel algorithm called Adaptive Threshold oFAST and rBRIEF-BRISK (AFK) is proposed. This algorithm utilizes the Hamming distance as a similarity measure and integrates AToFAST and rBRIEF-BRISK fusion feature descriptors. Through a comparison of 12 sets of image matching scenarios, it is demonstrated that the AFK algorithm achieves a matching speed 4.5 times faster than the SIFT algorithm, with an image matching accuracy of up to 90%. Additionally, this paper presents the GLMLBP-TOP (Global-Local and Michelson Contrast LBP-Three Orthogonal Planes) dynamic texture recognition method. Through a comparison of 21 sets experiments, it is shown that the comprehensive classification accuracy of the GLMLBP-TOP method is approximately 94.5%, improving the performance of VLBP (87.71%) and LBP-TOP (91.1%) by 6.79% and 3.4% respectively. Real-world application results demonstrate that this method meets the requirements of intelligent assembly processes and has been successfully applied to the LB intelligent assembly process of a certain company's televisions.

Abstract:Nowadays most face recognition systems are designed to cope with static environment. In many scenes such as smart surveillance people are in dynamic environment. Exist static recognition system can't work well in dynamic case. This paper propose a probabilistic model of dynamic face recognition. Depending on the probabilistic model we made two improvements to the previous method. Firstly, this paper introduce a parallel framework. Secondly, an effective face recognition algorithm which is based on Deep Learning and Mahalanobis distance metric learning is proposed. Additionally, this paper propose a different method to evaluate and select face recognition algorithm in dynamic case. Theoretical analysis and real world experiments result shows that our system framework can solve the situation of real-time face recognition in dynamic environment.
Vision Based Liquid Level Detection and Bubble Area Segmentation in Liquor Distillation

Abstract:In order to automatically measure the flow rate, alcohol strength and roughly determine the quality of distilled liquor, a system was developed with two transparent standard containers, two load cell sensors, and a camera. This paper presents the imaging part of the measurement system, including the optical path as well as a set of image processing methods to detect the position of the liquid level and calculate the amount of the bubbles on the top of the liquid. Four ArUco markers are used to locate the containers in the captured image and the containers are cropped out. Then the liquid level is detected and the area of bubbles are segmented using statistical information of the pixels in each container. According to the test results, the proposed methods archive accurate and real-time detection on an embedded processor and is robust to the change of the illumination, flowrate, liquid level and camera position.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem of false detection of the moving liquid level caused by the vibration of the constant temperature water bath, this paper combines the Type-2 Fuzzy Gaussian Mixture Model (T2-FGMM) and Markov Random Field (MRF) to study a new background modeling method for detecting the moving liquid level in dynamic scenes. The method first considers the output of T2-FGMM as the initial labeling domain of MRF, and then combines the local energy of the labeling domain with the observation energy. The key of this method is to combine the spatiotemporal prior of T2-FGMM with the observation. Comparative experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better dynamic background detection effect than traditional frame difference method and Vibe algorithm, and can effectively eliminate the influence of the vibration of the constant temperature water bath on the detection of the moving liquid level of the viscometer.

Abstract:Foreground detection is a fundamental step in visual surveillance.However,accurate foreground detection is still a challenging task especially in dynamic backgrounds.In this paper,we present a nonparametric approach to foreground detection in dynamic backgrounds.It uses a history of recently pixel values to estimate background model.Besides,the adaptive threshold and spatial coherence are introduced to enhance robustness against false detections.Experimental results indicate that our approach achieves better performance in dynamic backgrounds compared with several approaches.
Dynamic Video Object Detection with Single PTU Camera

Abstract:This paper presents a video object detection method under dynamic background with single PTU (pantilt unit) camera. The overall procedure contains two steps. First the moving object is tracked through interactive Mean Shift estimation and PTU control. Camera angular speed is updated online according to the estimated object position, whereby the object can remain in the center area of the image plane. In the second step, the foreground is detected through background subtraction and shape contour. An adaptive correlation thresholding method is applied to mitigate the detection distortion in boundary areas. Variational level set contour is then applied to further remove noises and locate moving areas. Our contribution is to incorporate in this procedure the special property of camera movement on a PTU to realize automatic tracking and efficient background matching for motion detection. As demonstrated in the experiment, the proposed method well outlines the foreground objects.

Abstract:Recent advances in high performance computing coupled with the decreasing cost of hardware now make machine vision a financially viable inspection option for even small and medium sized firms. Amongst many problems relative to the machine vision applications, the detection and tracking of moving targets is very important in many cases including industrial fields. Our challenge is to develop an effective methodology on analysis of dynamic images able to extract the moving target by using only visual sensing as input and keeping computation time and hardware cost to a minimum, typically with a standard Pentium-based computer and a standard CCD camera. This paper presents a segmentation method combining dynamic segmentation with static segmentation and examines moving object detection based primarily on inter-frame difference method. We applied the methods into the motion control of a familiar work table driving system only based on machine vision. The experimental results demonstrate that in realistic situations, detection of moving targets by using inter-frame difference method is more effective than that by using optical flow method.
Dynamic Background Modeling and Subtraction Using Spatio-Temporal Local Binary Patterns

Abstract:Traditional background modeling and subtraction methods have a strong assumption that the scenes are of static structures with limited perturbation. These methods will perform poorly in dynamic scenes. In this paper, we present a solution to this problem. We first extend the local binary patterns from spatial domain to spatio-temporal domain, and present a new online dynamic texture extraction operator, named spatio- temporal local binary patterns (STLBP). Then we present a novel and effective method for dynamic background modeling and subtraction using STLBP. In the proposed method, each pixel is modeled as a group of STLBP dynamic texture histograms which combine spatial texture and temporal motion information together. Compared with traditional methods, experimental results show that the proposed method adapts quickly to the changes of the dynamic background. It achieves accurate detection of moving objects and suppresses most of the false detections for dynamic changes of nature scenes.
Dynamic background subtraction based on appearance and motion pattern

Abstract:Moving objects detection plays a critical role in computer vision application, since it usually is the first phase in video processing. Most traditional methods are used in static scenes, however not perform well in dynamic situations, or they can only overcome limited perturbation. In this paper, we propose a stereo local binary pattern based on appearance and motion (SLBP-AM) descriptor for back-ground modeling and objects detection. We regard the motion of pixels as dynamic texture in ellipsoidal domain, and combine texture histograms in the XY, XT, YT planes in the ellipsoid as the new descriptor for background subtraction. Compared with traditional local binary pattern (LBP) descriptor, experiment results show that the new proposed method can not only be robust to slight disturbance, but also adapt quickly to the large-scale and sudden changes.

Abstract:The main limitation of image processing based on charge-coupled device (CCD) imaging in quantitative evaluation of thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is its nonuniform illumination. This paper presents a novel method to solve the problem. First, the background is estimated by employing the cubic spline surface construction. Then the estimated background is subtracted from the original image to make the image segmentation; Finally, the gray level integration for each object is calculated, which is proportional to the value of samples. Experiment shows that the linear correlation coefficient between gray integration and concentration of samples is 0.9978.
