Abstract:In this paper, we propose a JPEG image tampering detection method that is robust to post-processing operations such as rotation, resizing, feathering, etc. By finding image blocks that are lack of double compression artifacts, the proposed method can localize the tampered regions. Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) of the DCT coefficients is used to reveal the double compression artifacts of images. Experiments are designed to show the validity of the proposed method for double compression detection and localization for tampered regions. The proposed method needn’t to estimate the first quality factor as most of the previous works do and still works well even when the tampered images are recompressed at a low quality factor.

Reversible Information Hiding Based On Histogram Shifting For Jpeg2000 Images

Abstract:As an important branch of information security, information hiding in images has been extensively studied in recent years. However, most schemes will introduce irreversible distortion to the original image. It is unallowable in sonic special applications such as legal imaging and medical imaging. So reversible information hiding deserves us to study. In addition, most existing information hiding schemes are for BMP images and JPEG images. There are few related schemes for JPEG2000 images. So it is very necessary for us to study reversible information hiding for JPEG2000 images. In this paper, we propose a reversible information hiding scheme for JPEG2000 compressed images. In the proposed scheme, high frequency subbands of the cover image are divided into blocks. In each block, the histogram generated by the quantized wavelet coefficients of the block is shifted to create gaps for embedding data. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has satisfactory performance. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme has higher embedding capacity and better visual quality of the stego image.

Abstract:This paper introduces the functions and the usage of THJ2K, a JPEG2000 encoding IC designed by Tsinghua University. THJ2K can compress 20 frames of images with resolution of 512×512×8 bits per second. This paper presents a JPEG2000 compression system based on THJ2K, which can compress 11.75 frames per second for the image with resolution of 1 024×1 024× 8 bit.

Abstract:The way of application of JPEG2000 Part 11, namely JPEG2000 Wireless (JPWL), is proposed after introducing JPEG2000 Wireless and evaluating its performance. According to the error sensitivity information provided by Error Sensitivity Descriptor (ESD),the Error Protection Block (EPB) is applied to perform header protection and then to perform Unequal Error Protection (UEP) for the bit stream. In the process of decoding,the error concealment method is used based on the residual error information provided by Residual Error Descriptor (RED). Experimental results show that,compared with the traditional method,the proposed method gives more protections to the important parts of the bit stream. It can not only correct transmission errors effectively,but also improve the ability of decoding and the quality of the decoded images significantly.

Abstract:In connection with the efficiency problem of narrow-band PACS medical images transmission and display and following the DICOM 3.0 standard and JPEG2000 code stream properties of progressing transmission and free access, this paper presents a new parallel processing method of the images transmission and display. This method raises the performance of images' transmission, storage and display, and has been evaluated in the clinical medical diagnosis information system.
The application of JPEG2000 in virtual microscopy

Abstract:Virtual microscopy (i.e., the viewing of entire microscope specimens on a computer display) is becoming widely applied in microscopy teaching and clinical laboratory medicine. Despite rapidly increasing use, virtual microscopy currently lacks of a universally accepted image format. A promising candidate is JPEG2000, which has potential advantages for handling gigabyte-sized virtual slides. To date, no JPEG2000-based software has been specifically suited for virtual microscopy. To study the utility of JPEG2000 in virtual microscopy, we first optimized JPEG2000 code-stream parameters for virtual slide viewing (i.e., fast navigation, zooming, and use of an overview window). Compression using ratios 25:1-30:1 with the irreversible wavelet filter were found to provide the best compromise between file size and image quality. Optimal code-stream parameters also consisted of 10 wavelet decomposition levels, progression order Resolution-Position-Component-Layer (RPCL), a precinct size of 128 x 128, and code-block size of 64 x 64. Tiling and the use of multiple quality layers were deemed unnecessary. A compression application (JVScomp) was developed for creating optimally parameterized JPEG2000 virtual slides. A viewing application (JVSview) was developed specifically for virtual microscopy, offering all of the basic viewing functions. JVSview also supports viewing of focus stacks, embedding of textual descriptions, and defining regions of interest as metadata. Combined with our server application (JVSserv), virtual slides can be viewed over networks by employing the JPEG2000 Interactive Protocol (JPIP). The software can be tested using virtual slide examples located on our public JPIP server ( http://jvsmicroscope.uta.fi/ ). The software package is freely downloadable and usable for noncommercial purposes.
Exploring JPEG 2000 Technology for Larger Aerial Images and Novel Curvilinear Edge Coding Enhancement

Abstract:This paper explores the advanced features of JPEG 2000 and proposes the novel curvilinear-edge coding enhancement in the context of larger aerial image coding. This enhancement applies to the low resourceful on-board Machine Vision environment for the important surveillance applications. The overall memory consumption of the on-board codec's processor is lowered maximally by 20 percent with the use of the Precinct Partition strategy. Resolution prioritized progression ordering mode enables the immediate on-ground preview with undersized image reconstruction. Moreover, when coding larger aerial image's Region of Interest (ROI), JPEG 2000 with its layered architecture outperforms SPIHT. Using the average layer thresholds, a sequence of different aerial images can be reconstructed at the same quality. Exploring JPEG 2000 part II, i.e. 3-D Hyperspectral image coding concepts, the evaluated new parameter PSNR(ROI) (db) per band for mean bit rate of JPEG 2000 has a 5.7 percent gain over that with SPIHT. Despite its many powerful features, JPEG 2000 still lacks the directional detail filtering capability, hence, the inefficiency in curvilinear-edge reconstruction due to its inherent wavelet transforms based codec. Therefore, the novel Advanced Directional-Wavelet Packet Transform (ADWPT) is proposed for JPEG 2000, and implemented in pre-coding experiments giving a more competent curvilinear-edge coding performance than that with the existing transforms.

Abstract:To cope with the recent mobile scenes where images are used aggressively, a novel optimized truncation architecture dedicated to JPEG2000 image coding is presented in this paper. With a rate-distortion slope based method, the proposed architecture is aimed to achieve a low computational cost and small working memory size yet maintaining high image quality. By deciding the adequate number of coding passes to truncate as soon as each code-block coding ends, the proposed architecture eliminates iterative computations and reduces working memory size for bitstream buffering from full image size down to three-code-block size and provides the same rate-distortion performance as the software architecture. It is also implemented and verified inside a JPEG2000 encoder based on a Xilinx xc2v4000-ff1152 FPGA chip.

Abstract:In this paper,directing at the static image compression international standard JPEG2000,its image compression will be achieved in medical imaging and the results of compression will be comparatively analysed.The study found that based on discrete wavelet transform to a static image compression algorithm,JPEG2000 has a good compression ratio and signal noise ratio,very suitable for lossless compression of medical images,PACS provides the technical support for hospitals and remote health care.

Abstract:The scalable extension to the H.264/AVC has been established as a scalable video coding (SVC) standard, and JPEG2000 is a state of the act still image coding standard. The most distinctive difference between SVC and JPEG2000 is, in terms of spatial-frequency transformation, that SVC is based on the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and JPEG2000 is based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). JPEG2000 outperforms its predecessor-JPEG which adopts DCT by nearly 30% in terms of compression performance. Despite the DWT has been successfully employed in still image coding, the latest video coding standard keeps on ultilising DCT and the relevant techniques as its coding tools. In this paper, we investigate SVC for intra frame coding and JPEG2000 for still image coding, on video sequences with different resolutions and features. From the experimental evaluations, we attempt to gain deeper insight into the application scenarios of these two transform techniques. The experimental results demonstrate that at high bitrates, JPEG2000 outperforms SVC, and it is vice versa. We also note that the PSNR difference between SVC and JPEG2000 decreases with increasing the picture resolution. Therefore, JPEG2000 is more suited for high definition picture compression. The spatial scalability of SVC and JPEG2000 is also investigated in the evaluation, and the results show that SVC gains quite better performance than JPEG2000.

Abstract:According to the latest image compression standard JPEG2000, this paper proposes a new real-time encryption method which can encrypt wavelet coefficients during the process of encoding. The algorithm is based on a new wavelet confusion method called OCWF and combination with sign encryption. Experimental results show that this encryption method has good effect, low cost and small impact on compression capability, and is totally suitable for situations needing high compression ratio. The method meets the needs in some useful situations such as copyright protection.

Abstract:As the new generation standard for static image compression, JPEG2000 employs the wavelet transform instead of DCT in JPEG. JPEG2000 is thus advantageous over JPEG in terms of compression ratio, freedom of compression mode selection and adaptation to different kinds of images. Obviously, there is a tendency for JPEG2000 to take the place of JPEG, and large amount of images are saved in JPEG2000 format in image databases and on the Internet in the near future. So, research on image retrieval realized in JPEG2000 compressed domain has important real significance. In this paper, the data structure in JPEG2000 compressed domain is firstly analyzed. The concept of information tree and a novel tree-distance measurement are then proposed. Finally, we propose a new image retrieval method in JPEG2000 compressed domain. Experimental results show its potential in compressed domain image retrieval techniques.

Abstract:The major issues of using less storage space and wanting higher transmission rates for information in the form of high quality color images was taken into consideration. Two experiments were conducted in order to investigate and compare performance of compression standard including JPEG 1992 and JPEG 2000, and a newly developed CSI-JPEG. The CSI-JPEG is an amalgamation of Cubic Spline Interpolation (CSI) with baseline JPEG 1992 algorithm. The performance of different image compression algorithms was evaluated using different color models/spaces in terms of compression rate, color accuracy, and visual quality. The results from three assessment methods consistently showed that JPEG 2000 and CSI-JPEG performed significantly better compared with JPEG 1992 for small color differences (in the range of acceptability). Moreover, the CAM02-UCS performed best among other selected models in terms of compression rate and image performance for all three image compression algorithms. The results from the visual assessment also confirmed this. It was also found that CIEDE2000 can be reliably used for assessing quality of compressed images with low levels of distortion. Abstract:The problem that JPEG2000 fails to specify how to allocate the specific compression ratio among image tiles is analyzed in detail, and a compression ratio-pre-dispensation algorithm based on the information of each image tile is presented. The prediction and edge detection modules are firstly used to estimate the inner information of an image tile. Several different methods of image information measurement are discussed and compared. With a large number of experimental results, it is shown that the quality of the reconstructed image is greatly improved, and for some specific images whose object has the characteristic of precinct convergence, the result could be incredibly better than expected. For the hardware implement of JPEG 2000, JPEG-LS, PNG, the small edge detection module can meet the standard of high-speed and high-performance.
