Research on the Application of PBL Method in Teaching of Specialized English for Applied Chemistry

Abstract:Specialized English course for applied chemistry is one of the compulsory courses for students majoring in applied chemistry of engineering colleges, the development of which has a positive effect on the cultivation of innovative talents. To break through the limitation of its traditional teaching model, we attempted to introduce PBL ( Problem-based Learning) method into its teaching system. As a result, the PBL method stimulated students’ interest in learning, improved the students’ comprehensive English ability, and promoted the cultivation of innovative talents majoring in applied chemistry. It was proved that the introduction of this method in teaching of specialized English for applied chemistry was feasible and laid the foundation for its further teaching reform.
