Abstract:1,1-bis(4-Hydroxyphenyl) butane(bisphenol BD) was synthesized from phenol and butyraldehyde,in which sulfuric acid,hydrochloric acid and phosphotungstic acid were used as the catalysts separately.The result showed that catalytic performance of phosphotungstic acid was the best.HPLC indicated that the product purity reached 98.40%.When hydrochloric acid was used as the catalyst,the product yield was low and the byproduct contents were high.The target product was not found when sulfate was used as the catalyst.Orthogonal experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of the reaction conditions,namely temperature,mole ratio of phenol to butyraldehyde,catalyst dosage and mercaptoacetic acid co-catalyst dosage,on the reaction by means of HPLC.Under the optimal conditions: reaction temperature 80 ℃,mole ratio of phenol to butyraldehyde 5,phosphotungstic acid catalyst mass fraction 0.50%(based on the total mass of the reaction system,the same below) and mercaptoacetic acid co-catalyst mass fraction 0.62%,the product bisphenol BD yield reached 62.5%.The product structure was characterized by means of FTIR and 1H NMR.
