Abstract:In China, the rapid development greatly greatly promotes the national economic power and living standard but also inevitably brings a series of environmental problems. In order to resolve these problems fundamentally, Chinese scientists have been undertaking research in the area of green chemical engineering (GCE) for many years and achieved great progresses. In this paper, we reviewed the research progresses related to GCE in China and screened four typical topics related to the Chinese and screened four typical topics related to the Chinese resources characteristics and environmental requirements, i.e. ionic liquids and their applications, biomass utilization and bio-based materials/products, green solvent-mediated extraction technologies, and cold plas-mas for coal conversion. Afterwards, the perspectives and development tendencies of GCE were proposed, and the challenges which will be faced while developing available industrial technologies in China were mentioned.

Abstract:Research on green manufacture is the direction of all industries, problems caused by consumptions of water, energy, and labor from denim products also are eager for advanced solutions seriously. Based on a fundamental study on present green denim clothing with fading effect, this study presents certain analysis on three new types of digital approaches of denim products. The analyses about the design principle and process of three crafts are discussed, and different design cases are presented. The different design processes have shown that the digitalized patterns simulating the denim effects are important and connected with the terminal fashionable usage. Certain detailed design methods in pattern designs are introduced. Three different methods can achieve different product effects of denim appearances, and each of them is environmental friendly and effectively.

Abstract:This paper explores the integration of eco-friendly materials in clothing design to maintain high-quality and aesthetically pleasing interior clothing design. Texture, as a fundamental element in images, reveals surface characteristics and aids in visual interpretation. The paper introduces an enhanced DCNN-based algorithm for extracting texture features from clothing materials. The algorithm addresses the limitation of moment invariants by combining them with boundary direction characteristics, enhancing its ability to capture shape and spatial distribution information across the entire image. Experimental results validate the algorithm’s effectiveness in image analysis and the extraction of apparel material texture features. Applying environmental design principles to the apparel design domain, this study offers a novel perspective on sustainable clothing design. Overall, the paper emphasizes the importance of using eco-friendly materials in clothing design for a better future.

Abstract:At first, this paper reviewed the background and literature of green manufacturing, Then this paper discussed the basic connotation of green manufacturing though comparative research. By comparing Green manufacturing with other manufacturing modes in the in the organization, the core support technologies, the environment and so on, the basic characters of technologies and organization of green manufacturing were discovered and described. After analyzed the dilemma of the green manufacturing implementation, a dynamical modal of green manufacturing system was built. Based on this model, the corresponding strategies of market, government and companies were put forward.

Abstract:PurposeDrawing upon social capital theory, this research aims to explore the influence of three dimensions of green intellectual capital (GIC) (i.e. green human capital [GHC], green structural capital and green relational capital) on green supply chain integration (GSCI) (i.e. green supplier, internal and customer integration), and the mediating effect of supply chain transformational leadership (SCTL).Design/methodology/approachTo verify the hypothesized relationships, the authors conduct hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrapping method with two-waved survey data collected from 317 Chinese manufacturing firms.FindingsThe findings suggest that both green structural and relational capital positively influence three dimensions of GSCI, while GHC only positively affects green internal and customer integration. In addition, SCTL mediates the impacts of green structural and relational capital on three dimensions of GSCI and mediates the impacts of GHC on green supplier and internal integration.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the GSCI literature and practice by deeming GIC as an intangible resource that can enhance GSCI and revealing the mediating role of SCTL.

Abstract:Effective production planning is crucial for optimizing resource management and enhancing the recycling rate of defective fabric to reduce waste and wastewater generation. Dyeing is valuable and polluting process in the textile industry. Low quality and uncertain yields increase environmental costs for handling material waste and wastewater, while little research has been done to address the present problem. This study aims to develop a robust green production planning framework to minimize wastewater production and maximize the recycling rate of defective dyed products. To validate the proposed framework, martingale models of forecast evolution were designed to consider yield uncertainty, while a simulation model was developed based on a leading textile company in Taiwan. The results have shown practical viability of the proposed model that can effectively deal with the yield rate uncertainty and reduce production risks with robust performance for both circular supply chain and total resource management.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of green supply chain integration (GSCI) on sustainable performance which includes environmental, social and economic performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on data collected from 206 Chinese manufacturers, this study uses structural equation modeling with the maximum-likelihood estimation method to test the theoretical model. Findings The results show that different dimensions of GSCI have different outcomes. Green internal integration lays the foundation for green supplier integration (GSI) and green customer integration (GCI), and is related to both environmental and social performance. GSI is positively related to economic performance, whereas GCI is positively related to social performance. Originality/value Believing that “how to be green” matters, this study focuses on an integrative approach to green supply chain management (GSCM), shedding new light on how GSCI influences performance and providing practical guidelines for different stakeholders.

Abstract:This study investigates the impacts of three dimensions of green supply chain integration (GSCI) on operational and financial performance, from both a contingency and a configuration perspective. From the contingency perspective, we used hierarchical regression to determine the impacts of individual GSCI dimensions (green internal, customer and supplier integration) and their interactions on firm performance. From the configuration perspective, we used cluster analysis to develop patterns of GSCI, which were analyzed in terms of GSCI strength and balance. Analysis of variance was used to examine the relationship between GSCI pattern and firm performance. We used data collected from manufacturing firms in Shanxi, Shandong, Beijing, Guangdong and Jiangsu to test hypotheses. The findings from both the contingency and configuration perspective indicate that GSCI was related to both operational and financial performance. Furthermore, the interaction between green internal integration and green customer integration was positively related to both operational and financial performance, while the interaction between green internal integration and green supplier integration was negatively related to financial performance. The interaction between green customer integration and green supplier integration was positively related to financial performance.

Abstract:It is well acknowledged that, China is a country with copious manufacturing industries, and Chinese industrial products spread all over the world. Research into the theory and practice of evaluating manufacturing factories in China is of highly significant. However, the traditional method of evaluating factories tends to focus on individual aspects such as efficiency, energy conservation, and environmental protections. There have been relatively few reports covering comprehensive evaluation methods for a systematic green factory. Based on an analysis of the current situation in various countries and regions, the concept and scope of the China Green Factory (CGF) have been defined. The characteristics of a CGF include the intensification of land, the decontamination of raw materials, clean production, waste administration, and the reduction of carbon and energy. The objectives of this paper are to highlight the current policy and research on the CGFs, quantify the positive effects of CGFs, and make some suggestions for future development.

Abstract:The United States is the most important textile import market in the world, and one of the most important export targets of developing countries. In view of its ecological environment and consumer health, the United States has put forward increasingly harsh environmental protection systems and standards for imported textile products, and its environmental trade barriers have been steadily strengthened. China’s textile exports increased substantially after joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2000; at present, the textile imports of the United States from China and India reach in total more than one third of all their imports. China and India both have comparative advantages in the import trade of textile raw materials and clothing in the United States (U.S.). On the basis of the United Nation ComTrade Rev. 3, this paper studies the role of China and India in the United States textile market, including calculating the trade competitiveness index, revealing the competitive advantages of China and India, and investigating the impact of both Chinese and Indian textiles on United States imports from the rest of the world across three main textile sectors in the period 2000–2016, especially in the context of green trade barriers. We find that the relative textile import prices, the ecological standard of China’s textile production re-edited Oeko-Tex Standard 100 in 2008 and export tax policy, and the competitive advantages of China and India had varied impacts on relative U.S. textile imports across related sectors under green environmental trade barriers. These findings recognize China’s competitiveness in international trading, and also provide suggestions regarding China’s competitiveness and sustainable development in the U.S. market.

Abstract:The increasing public awareness and sense of social responsibility related to environmental issues have led the textile industry to manufacture products with improved environmental profiles. This article evaluates processes used to produce cotton, wool, nylon, polyester, rayon, lyocell (Tencel®), and leather, and their potential environmental impacts using selected criteria. An analysis of the measures the textile industry has taken to reduce the adverse environmental impacts is provided. Finally, the textile industry's and consumers' responsibilities in moving toward the production of environmentally sound textile products are discussed. The assessment of the environmental impact of a product is a complex issue, and solutions cannot be achieved without action by the government, industry, and the consumers.

Abstract:Green production is implemented to save energy, reduce energy consumption, and decrease pollution levels. Green production is associated with preventing pollution and can be used to further extend manufacturer responsibility to products and the environment, thereby achieving the goals of ecological benefits and sustainable development. Green production is a crucial part of corporate social responsibility; thus, enterprises pursuing sustainable development should determine how green production and social responsibility can be integrated with their core operation strategies. This study developed green production–based assessment indicators to establish a green production assessment framework. In addition, the decision-making trail and evaluation laboratory and analytical network process were used to create a decision-making trail and evaluation laboratory–based analytical network process model. We employed the decision-making trail and evaluation laboratory–based analytical network process to calculate the level of influence and causality between the indicators and subsequently determine the weight of the indicators. Finally, the indicators were used to establish a comprehensive assessment system for green production. The green production criteria system established in this study is both a theoretical contribution and has wide practical applications.

Abstract:Although environmental awareness has reached a high level, enterprises—regardless of their working domains—follow the concept of greenness for their practices. This awareness among the stakeholders and supply chain experts has a positive impact on the purchasing departments of enterprises in various sectors to consider greenness in their procurement processes. The critical decision that must be made in green supply chain management (GSCM) is supplier selection. In the textile industry, a highly competitive market in recent years, suppliers for this industry have crucial roles in business activities considering environmental issues. Therefore, green supplier selection (GSS) in the textile industry is considered a must-be process for the stakeholders. In this study, a GSS problem is tackled as a multi-criteria decision process. Best worst method (BWM) and TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of interactive and multi-criteria decision-making) methods are merged under an improved fuzzy concept of interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2FSs). In determining green suppliers’ evaluation criteria, BWM with interval type-2 fuzzy numbers (IT2F-BWM) is used. In selecting green suppliers, an interval type-2 fuzzy TODIM (IT2F-TODIM) is applied. Considering the characteristics of IT2FSs, BWM, and TODIM methods either individually and in integrated style, the proposed approach can handle uncertainty in the decision-making of GSS. To demonstrate the applicability of the approach, a case study in the Turkish textile industry is performed. Three green supplier alternatives (S1, S2, and S3) are assessed under forty-two sub-criteria. The study shows the most significant sub-criteria are recognized as dye and print quality, product design and pattern suitability, profit on the product, variation in price, and purchase cost. S2 green supplier has been selected as the most appropriate one. A sensitivity analysis is also fulfilled to check variation in the ranking of green suppliers.
