Survey on Energy Utilization of a University Dormitory Based on the Building Energy Consumption Monitor Platform

Abstract:Energy consumption monitor platform,as an important method towards the goal of building energy conservation, has been popularized in universities. In order to examine whether the platform has brought substantial energy efficiency to buildings on campus, energy consumption levels between an international students' dorm building and a domestic students' dorm building with the platform in a row of three years were compared, and significant wastes were found in the electricity utilization of the international students' dormitory. Another survey about the dorm managers' managements on electricity consumption was conducted, and it's found that dorm managers hardly control the students' electricity consumption behaviors, for the difficulty to obtain energy consumption data. A further investigation on the penetration rate of the basic managerial personnel using this platform showed that they had few chances to get the data generated from the platform. It's concluded that energy consumption monitor platform has no substantial effects on improving the energy efficiency of students' dormitories, and energy consumption monitor data is useful to the electricity consumption managements by dorm managers to achieve the goal of energy conservation. University buildings now all have energy wastes to different extents, so allowing the grassroots building managers to get access to the energy consumption monitor platform while providing them with push data and guidance suggestions will benefit the energy conservation from the perspective of behavior and management, which eventually leads to real energy conservation effects.
