Abstract:INTRODUCTION: With the continuous advancement of urbanization, urban landscape sculpture plays an increasingly important role in modern urban planning. Traditional planning and design methods make it challenging to demonstrate the three-dimensional sense and artistry of sculpture fully; therefore, this study explores a new method of planning and designing modern urban landscape sculpture based on three-dimensional virtual reconstruction.OBJECTIVES: This study aims to enhance the three-dimensional sense and artistry of urban landscape sculpture planning and design through three-dimensional virtual reconstruction technology to meet the needs of modern urban development better. By using advanced technical means, the planning and design can be made more intuitive and specific and provide urban residents with a more artistic public space.METHODS: The study adopts advanced three-dimensional virtual reconstruction technology, combined with urban planning and design theory, to plan and design modern urban landscape sculpture. Firstly, relevant literature on urban planning and sculpture design is collected to understand the existing design concepts and technical means. Secondly, a detailed virtual reconstruction of the sculpture is carried out by using three-dimensional modeling software to show the three-dimensional effect of the sculpture. Finally, the design scheme is optimized and improved through fieldwork and expert review.RESULTS: Through three-dimensional virtual reconstruction technology, this study successfully shows the whole picture of modern urban landscape sculpture. The design scheme not only has a three-dimensional sense but it has also been improved in artistry. The results of fieldwork and expert evaluation show that the new design scheme is more in line with the needs of urban development and adds a unique artistic atmosphere to the urban space.CONCLUSION: This study has achieved positive results in the field of modern urban landscape sculpture planning and design through 3D virtual reconstruction technology. The new design method not only provides a more specific tool for urban planners but also creates a more creative and artistic public space for urban residents. In the future, the application of this method in different urban contexts can be further explored and expanded to inject more innovation and vitality into urban planning and sculpture design.
A Strategic Approach to Contemporary Urban Planning in China:Assessment of Design-based and Strategy-based Planning in the Complex Urban System

Abstract:With the rapid urbanization and evident transfer of urban development and planning system from a planned one to a market-oriented one,the Chinese urban planning has encountered an unprecedentedly complex situation.Analysis and research on urban systems with complexity theory have consequently become imperative.Through the analysis of design-oriented and strategy-oriented planning approaches,this study finds that the latter is more effective in a fast-changing urban environment.The major reason is that the strategy-oriented approach is more flexible and is capable of solving the numerous problems in a complex urban system.Therefore,it can multiply social welfare progressively and achieve higher cumulative system utility or better cumulative social welfare.This study finally argues that the design-oriented approach should be replaced by the strategy-oriented one in four ways:(1) the traditional time-driven and design-oriented plans should be replaced by event-driven and strategy-oriented plans;(2) the time range of plans should not be too short or too long,and should take full account of the validity and type of plans;(3) a giant city master plan should be replaced by several small-scale strategic plans;and(4) in addition to physical design,urban planning should include institutional design,such as the formal design of statutes and informal design of criteria.
An Analysis Of Livable City Planning: A Community View

Abstract:The existence and development of cities is to make citizen's social production and daily life a better one. However, in the current process of urbanization, too much attention is paid on the industrial production. Little research to date has been focused on the livability of cities. Given this, this paper first reviewed the theoretical research and construction practice of livable city at home and abroad and then analyzed the problems of the new residential areas and old street areas from the community perspective. By using the case study and comparative analysis method, the paper also analyzed the interaction between China's urban growth pattern flaws and urban land use structure, as well as their impacts on existing residential pattern called residential district pattern of Modernism. The impact of the New Urbanism TND model on China's community construction is investigated and the difference between the residential districts and TND communities is also analyzed by using a practical case study in Gemdale Zizai City. Finally, the Chinese livable community model based on TND is proposed in the study, which provides a reference for theoretical research and construction practice on China's livable city.

Abstract:With the development of information technology and China's urban economy, the concept of smart cities has been proposed many times. Planning and designing cityscapes are essential in the process of building smart cities. There are many factors to consider when designing and planning traditional cityscapes, and these factors must be studied in combination with modern developments and characteristics. Information technology can provide massive data support and technical support for these studies. With the support of information technology, cities and modern technology can be closely connected. This paper proposes research on digital cityscape planning and design under spatial information technology using literature methods, field survey methods, comparative survey methods, and other methods. First, we deeply study spatial information technology and theoretical knowledge of digital cityscape planning and design; then, we design a spatial gray-level co-occurrence matrix model, collect urban vegetation data maps via remotely sensed images, and finally analyze the planning and design of digital cityscapes. After landscape planning, the vegetation was rated at 38.94 points, approximately 12 points higher than the rating given before planning. This result shows that after reasonable landscape planning and design, the needs of people for green plants can be met well, and the ecological value of digital urban spatial landscapes can be fully utilized. These results are important for maintaining the diversity of urban biodiversity, regulating the regional climate, and maintaining urban spaces, and the ecological balance of the entire city also plays a vital role.

Abstract:The 21st century can be regarded as an "urban" century. With the rapid development of China's urbanization process, cities have gradually lost their uniqueness because of the tendency to construct cities using similar design principles. In this article, traditional Chinese culture is advocated, (especially Qian Xuesen's Shan-shui City concept), and explained from three aspects: the Natural State, the Picturesque State and the Ideal State. Based on these concepts, the paper advocates the Holistic Design approach and collaboration with other design disciplines. Three city scale projects -Beijing Olympic park, Tiding Fanhe New City and Tangshan Nanhu Eco-city - put this "Shan-shui City" concept into practice.

Abstract:In the background of the new era, we put forward new tasks and higher demands for urban planning in the new social situation, especially for large-scale city design. The traditional urban design without strategic thinking can no longer meet the needs of urban construction and development. Some scholars have realized that the scope of urban design can not be confined to physical space, but should be extended to economic, social and ecological fields more macro. In this paper, taking the design of Qihe ASEAN International Eco City in Shandong as an example, combined with the natural resources and the actual conditions, we put forward the planning guidance strategy from four aspects of space, transportation, industry and ecology. We hope that through the research of this project, it will provide some reference for the same type of urban design projects in the future.

Abstract:With the development of society and the improvement of urban economic level, people are no longer satisfied with the simple material and functional requirements of the city; thus, the spiritual requirements of city beauty, environmental quality, place atmosphere, and so on need to be improved. Based on the above background, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the landscape planning of Guangzhou’s digital city based on spatial information from the perspective of smart cities. Based on the relevant theoretical research, this paper combs the ideas of intelligent urban road landscape design. This paper analyzes the concept of urban road and smart road and puts forward the definition and characteristics of intelligent urban road landscape; according to the research on the development status of urban road and the connotation of smart city, combined with the concept and principle of urban road landscape design, it summarizes the design method of smart city road landscape. This paper, taking the innovative design of urban landscape as the research object and using the research methods of literature analysis and field investigation, innovatively combines the urban landscape design with digital information technology, changes the traditional landscape design ideas, constructs the urban landscape innovative design model, realizes the personalization of the urban landscape design, as well as the intelligent, digital, diversified, and humanized service and function. The experimental results show that nearly 60% of people are satisfied with the Guangzhou digital urban landscape planning based on spatial information in the smart city perspective.

Abstract:Through the research on the development stages of the green space system, it was considered that the key for the planning of the urban green space system towards eco-city is to construct urban ecological green space system. In this paper, based on the requirement of eco-city construction, landscape ecology model (patch-corridor-matrix) was adopted to analyze the urban green space system. Simultaneously, the principle and methodology for the plan were provided. Finally, according to the framework of the urban green space system plan for ecological city, the author made a sample study of Changzhou City in Jiangsu Province and put forward a preliminary plan for its ecological green space construction. And it was important for the environment improvement and the sustainable development in China.

Abstract:As a technical practice guiding urban space (re)creation, urban design is characterized by systematicness, openness and richness. Modern urban design is facing growingly complex challenges, far beyond the scope of traditional space aesthetics, and needs to integrate many related disciplines and engineering technologies, especially digital technologies, which make the urban design work more comprehensive and scientific. The paper studies on the urban design of Chongqing Frontier Science City. Instead of using conventional way of strong terrain transformation, the plan explores various means of low impact development (LID) to meet reasonable construction density and development goals. The paper also studies on modern quantifiable technical tools to reduce the cost and meet diversified demands in industry, livability, vitality, efficiency, ecology, energy conservation and intellectualization. Consequently, urban design provided strong technical support to influence, fulfill and even modify statutory planning; meanwhile, it is equipped with important technical basis to guide subsequent engineering practice effectively. The quantifiable technical tools used in the case involve landscape space, ecological protection, safety guarantee, sponge city, municipal energy and wind environment simulation, etc.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the current issues in urban development,looks back into the history of learning from traditional cities in the field of urban design,and finally introduces a new way of urban design aiming to learn from the traditional cities and create a better city life as well.Based on two examples of Shangbu District in Jinan and Wudianshi Historic District in Jinjiang,the authors try to demonstrate the following principles:the local heritage,history and culture should be deeply studied;the diversity of functions in blocks should be kept;the traditional texture should be conserved;the historic relics and cultural space should be protected and activated;the scale in buildings and spaces and the abundant and diversified townscapes should be inherited;and a pleasant environment and space for a better life with rich local cultural characteristics should be created.
