Abstract:This paper presents the cooling metering problem of central air conditioning systems according to heating metering which is going on in cold area, and analyses the actuality of cooling metering in our country and the meaning of cooling metering method for building energy efficiency, operation of central air conditioning systems and facility management. Furthermore, it introduces and compares some existed metering methods in our country. It concludes that cooling metering in air conditioning systems has significant meaning for building energy efficiency and can not be ignored, and it need to be attached enough attention by researchers in building environment, facility management and building energy fields.
A New Method Of Cooling Metering For The Fan-Coil Unit Air-Conditioning System

Abstract:Cooling metering is a key problem in charging for air-conditioning. Therefore, it has been given more attention. Although, there are several metering methods and relevant products, the need for the development of cooling metering and charging is not yet met. According to the characteristic of fan-coil air-conditioning systems, this paper derives the cooling formula for fan-coil units based on the heat transfer theories and puts forward a new method of cooling metering named Cooling Metering on the Air side which can monitor the individual air-conditioning cooling consumption during a period of time by detecting the condition of the inlet air - temperature and humidity - of the fan-coil air-conditioning system, as well as the parameters of inlet cooling water provided by the chiller. This paper systematically expounds the basic principles of cooling metering on the air side of the fan-coil unit, theoretically analyses its metering precision and presents several ways to reduce its metering error. The authors hold that the method of airside cooling metering is technically practical, economic and has definite competition in China's market. The method is currently of significance and reference value to the development of the cooling metering industry in China.

Abstract:Large amounts of actual measured meteorological data of 20 typical cities in hot summer and cold winter zone in China between 1971 and 2003 were analyzed.There exist wide differences in climatic conditions among cities in this climate region, as reflected in many aspects like the average temperature and diurnal range in coldest(hottest) month, the number of days in which the daily average temperature was less than or equal to 5 ℃ (higher than or equal to 25 ℃), the heating and cooling degree day, etc.The reasonability of calculation periods set by three existing relevant standards in China was investigated, and a new defining method of calculation period was proposed based on actual measured meteorological data and discreteness analysis.The results of energy consumption simulation for residential buildings with the Design Builder software indicate that different calculation periods not only affect the total heating and cooling consumption simulation result, but also change the ratio of them.

Abstract:Energy cost allocation systems apportion cooling and/or heating costs among the individual apartments in centrally metered buildings based on various methods of energy metering. The most commonly used systems measure one or more parameters related to the thermal output of the terminal element but do not measure enough parameters to provide an accurate energy measurement because of many reasons, such as investment, installation, maintenance cost, etc. They typically assume that cooling or heating output is linearly proportional to a quantity, which may be a single temperature, a difference between two temperatures, or an average of two temperatures. Most of them only perform well over a certain limited range of application conditions (Hewett 1994). To solve this problem, this paper puts forward a new method called "cooling/heating metering on the air side," which uses five parameters, including indoor air temperature and humidity, entering water temperature, airflow rate, and water flow rate, to calculate the thermal output of the terminal elements. These needed parameters can be obtained by a direct or indirect way, which is discussed at length in this paper. Theoretic analysis shows that the metering errors of the method are lower than 25% in most cases and will be further reduced when some measurements are made in the actual situation. The new method is comparatively economical and efficient in air-conditioning thermal metering.

Abstract:The impact of various installment methods, chilled water parameters and indoor air temperatures on the capillary-tube radiant cooling capacity. We used experiment method and test lab in order to analyze the real cooling capacity and thermal environments were investigated in order to make guidelines for designing a radiant cooling system combined with Temperature and Humidity Independently Control System. As a result, the impacts of various parameters on the cooling capacity of radiant cooling system were demonstrated quantitatively.

Abstract:The cooling metering of fan-coil units plays a key role on the charging of cooling supplying in the central air conditioning systems, which improves the energy efficiency of systems and decreases the controversies between the owner and the user. In order to achieve both of accuracy and affordability on metering, a new metering method is proposed by analyzing the principle and application of water-side measurement and air-side measurement which are existing methods at present. The theory of the new method is studied based on heat transfer of the fan-coil unit. The temperature of the inlet water as well as the temperature and humidity of the inlet air are determined as data collected for cooling calculation. The effect of sensors' positions on the accuracy of the cooling metering is studied by experiments and the error of this metering method is analyzed. The appropriate data collection position is suggested according to the size of systems. It shows that the new method can meet the requirements of real projects, resolving difficulties of data acquisition accurately and economically. The total error of the experiment system is about 8%-12%.

Abstract:The charging standard and charging mode of cooling and heating of district air conditioning system in residential construction are discussed.Points out the principle complied with when establishingthe charging standard,briefly introduces four kinds of charging modes,based on a sub zone,analyzing the influence of the variety of energy consuming price to the system's profit and loss,simulates the cooling(heating) load and energy consumption fee of each type of residence.Considers that adopting the "set lunch" charging mode,in which the energy fee is made up of stationary and measurement using fee,can not only avoid consumer using energy at will,resulting in energy waste,but also arousing consumer using more to guarantee the system working in high efficiency,reducing the running cost.

Abstract:Heating/cooling cost allocation is of growing concern in many countries because it contributes much to the energy conservation of central air-conditioning system. This paper intends to summarize the current studies and techniques on the heating/cooling cost allocation and discuss about the key problems to them. The contents mainly include the following parts: (1) probing into the methods of heating/cooling measurement; (2) establishing the calculation model for thermal billing; (3) presenting several typical systems for heating/cooling cost allocation. The significance of the paper is to help the engineers in this field have a good idea of the current development of heating/cooling cost allocation and promote the application of the relevant technologies to practice.

Abstract:Two types of airconditioning (AC) systems generally exist, namely, centralized and decen-tralized AC systems. This study focuses on three actual engineering projects of residential communities where centralized AC systems are adopted.The applicability of centralized AC systems in residential buildings is discussed and analyzed. In addition, the key elements that lead to different building energy consumptions and system efficiencies between centralized and decentralized AC systems in residential buildings are investigated. This study shows that in residential buildings, at the point where the centralized feature of the system meets the decentralized featureofusers’ load, the problems of high energy consumption and low energy efficiency could easily occur.

Abstract:Taking three real residential building projects with centralized air conditioning systems as examples,analyses and discusses the practicability of centralized air conditioning systems in residential buildings.Investigates key factors that lead to the differences between centralized and distributed air conditioning systems in residential buildings,and gives practicable conditions of the two kinds of systems respectively.The research result proves that,in residential buildings in China,because of the load features of non-synchronized demand and low load rate in user side,the problems of high energy consumption or low energy efficiency would happen when applying the centralized air conditioning system with limited regulating ability in user end or water system.

Abstract:Investigates the cooling energy consumption of five residential buildings with different air conditioning modes in Beijing in summer of 2006.Analyses the energy consumption characteristics of them and obtains the following results:1)For the residential buildings with split air conditioners,air conditioners are installed more but operating time shorter,average energy consumption level is lower and the difference of cooling energy consumption among households is quite large;2)For three high-rise residential buildings in a high-class residential quarters,the rate of cooling energy consumption indexes among the buildings with split air conditioning,household air conditioning and central air conditioning is 1∶1.8∶6.7;3)The energy consumption of air conditioning will rise to a large extent if household air conditioning or central air conditioning is applied to the residential buildings,and considers that the most suitable air conditioning mode for residential buildings in China is still that of choosing split air conditioners.

Abstract:This paper presents a method to acquire runtime distribution ratio of building air conditioning system under part load condition (part load coefficient of system) through practical energy consumption data. By utilizing monthly energy consumption data of the entire year as the analysis object, this paper identifies data distribution, verifies distribution characteristics and analyzes distribution probability density for the issue of running time distribution ratio of air conditioning system in part load zones in the whole operation period, thus providing a basic calculation basis for an overall analysis of energy efficiency of air conditioning system. In view of the general survey of public building energy consumption carried by the government of Chongqing, this paper takes the governmental office building as an example, the part load ratio coefficient corresponding to practical running of air conditioning system of governmental office building in Chongqing is obtained by utilizing the above probability analysis and the solving method of probability density function. By utilizing the ratio coefficient obtained using this method, the part load coefficient with any running ratio of air conditioning system can be obtained according to the requirement of analysis, which can be used in any load ratio for analyzing running energy efficiency of air conditioning system.

Abstract:Energy consumption in residential buildings accounts for a large portion of global energy use. Understanding residential building load characteristics is important in both the design and technical suitability analysis of residential air conditioning systems in terms of energy efficiency and carbon reduction. However, most current research mainly focuses on the load characteristics of individual buildings and not on the variation in load characteristics of building aggregation. In addition, the load characteristics of building aggregations vary with the building scale; however, most studies have compared those of buildings under a certain scale, and the change with the increase in building scale is still unclear. The main purpose of this study is to explore load characteristic differences among residential buildings of different scales and the impacts of those differences on HVAC system design. Based on the monitoring data collected in a residential district in Zhengzhou, China, we analyzed the load characteristics among different households and combinations of different numbers of households from the variation in peak load, total consumption and load distribution, as well as the daily load volatility. We indicate that the load characteristics of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems of different scales should be considered in the design and operation stage.

Abstract:The increasing sharply penetration of air conditioning causes a large number of energy consumption, it is crucial to identify a solution to reduce energy consumption. In this study, the operation pattern of air conditioning (A/C), indoor thermal environment, residents' thermal comfort and energy consumption in multi-residential buildings in hot summer and warm winter zone are analyzed by means of field measurements and questionnaire surveys. Most observed indoor temperature fell within the range of 28-30 degrees C. Because the relative humidity reached up to more than 90%, some residential indoor thermal environment has the risk of heatstroke. It can be obtained 28.4 degrees C as the thermal neutral temperature, and the acceptable temperature ranges from 27.1 degrees C to 29.6 degrees C, which is much higher than other climate zones. Moreover, the simulation software Energy-Plus was used to simulate and verify the energy consumption of typical multi-residential buildings. Simulation results indicate that each 1 degrees C increase of setting temperature would lead to an approximately 20% reduction in cooling energy consumption. The appropriate setting temperature of air conditioning is the temperature which could achieve the actual indoor temperature maintain at approximately 28-29 degrees C, the appropriate service time and switching behavior of A/C also have positive effect on the reduction of energy consumption.

Abstract:The related researches about district cooling systems are very limited in China, which leads to several misunderstandings and improper applications in engineering practices. Under this background, a real project with the district cooling system in a residential community is analyzed in this paper, and the equipment performances are discussed. It is found that the occupant behavior has a key influence on the efficiency of a district cooling system. Through the simulation which accounts for the different use modes of residents, the applicability analysis about the application of district cooling systems in residential buildings is conducted. Through the research, it can be concluded that the district cooling system can only be high efficiency with a concentrated terminal load profile. And for the popular occupant behavior in residential buildings in China, it's worth examining whether the applicaition of district cooling systems is suitable.

Abstract:Room air conditioner (RAC) is widely used as a indoor thermal environment conditioning equipment in residential buildings, the characteristics of space cooling load influence RAC design and indoor environment dramatically. Space cooling load, including sensible cooling load and latent cooling load, sensible heat ratio (SHR) at different times are calculated in an apartment bedroom in Grangzhou and Beijing separately; indoor relative humidity variations under different RAC equipment SHR and space SHR conditions are analysed. It is suggested that the design of RAC should be according to the characteristics of space cooling load in different areas.

Abstract:Calculates the life cycle energy consumption of air conditioners in urban residential buildings in main cities in China. Analyses the influence of operating mode of air conditioners on the life cycle energy consumption. The results show that the energy saving effect of energy efficient air conditioners is significant for the households in southern tropic areas or the higher energy consumption households, but for some households in cold weather areas or the lower energy consumption households in other areas, the life cycle energy consumption of the air conditioners with one-level energy efficiency is higher than that of the air conditioners with five-level energy efficiency and energy efficient air conditioners consume more material resource. So it is necessary to set different EER standards of air conditioners for different weather areas, different economy level and different function buildings.
