Abstract:Chemical washing technique has been one of the hot soil remediations because of its high efficiency and complete removal of the heavy metals in soils. The key of washing technique is washing agents, furthermore, the changes of the soil basic properties after washing has been one of the factors that limited to application. Tests were conducted to examine the removal efficiency of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) on contaminated soil from around smelter by organic acids (citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, acid and oxalic acid) and chloride (FeCl3, CaCl2, MgCl2, KCl and NaCl) washing, and washing with mixture of organic acid (citric acid or tartaric acid) and chloride. The changes of soil basic properties in soil were also determined before and after soil washing. The results showed that the removal efficiency of Cd and Pb were citric acid > malic acid, tartaric acid > oxalic acid > acetic acid by organic acids washing, and FeCl3> CaCl2> MgCl2> KCl > NaCl by chloride washing. The removal efficiency of Cd and Pb increased by citric acid (150 mmol·L-1) mixed with FeCl3(50 mmol·L-1) washing, were up to 44.6% and 29.0% for the soil samples of Laowang village, and it is only 35.6% and 11.6%, 28.0% and 10.9% by organic acids and chloride washing, respectively. The removal efficiency of Cd and Pb were up to 64.4% and 16.9% for the soil samples of Da Tian Wan by citric acid mixed with FeCl3 washing, respectively, But the removal efficiency of Cd and Pb was only 43.0% and1.5% by citric acid washing. The removal efficiency of Cd was 5% and Pb almost did not wash out by FeCl3washing. The pH values of Laowang village and Datianwan soils were declined 2.45 and 4.03 units by citric acid (100 mmol·L-1) mixed with FeCl3(50 mmol·L-1) washing 3 times later, respectively The CEC and available N, P, K were decreased, the free oxides (Al) increased significantly, and the organic matter was almost unchanged. The heavy metals concentrations decreased significantly after washing remediation and reduced pressure and risks for the subsequent implementation of phytoremediation technology, suggesting applying alkali lime adjust soil pH, adding N, P, K fertilizer.
