Abstract:Supercritical water oxidation is a new technology for treating organic pollutants and wastewater.When the temperature and pressure exceeds the critical value of water(Tc=374.2℃ and Pc=22.12 MPa),the physical properties of water changes tremendously.In details,supercritical water can dissolve some materials generally insoluble in liquid water,especially some organic chemicals can be oxidized and decomposed efficiently in supercritical water,which is regarded as a kind of ideal homogeneous medium.Although the technology has many advantages,the problem of corrosion seriously hinders the industrial application of the technology.This paper reviews the research progress on the corrosion problem occurring in the process of supercritical water oxidation.The relevant parameters are analyzed for reducing the corrosion to the materials of equipment.Beyond,this work reviews some corrosion-resistance materials used in the process of supercritical water oxidation in order to develop better equipments against corrosion in different media.

Abstract:Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is a promising technology for treating degradation-resistant organic waste. In this paper, the basic principles and technical advantages of supercritical water oxidation technology are introduced, and the research on and technical characteristics of commercial enterprises are summarized. The typical SCWO process is composed of pretreatment, pressurization, preheating, reaction, cooling, depressurization, gas-liquid-solid separation and oxidant modules. Various SCWO process schemes should be developed to accommodate site conditions, avoid corrosion, prevent salt deposition, reduce building investment and minimize operational expenses. The system could be classified in the form of heat recovery, feed pretreatment, salt separation and reactor. The application range of various process technologies was clarified, and the current research on SCWO processes was summarized.

Abstract:Several advanced oxidation processes for water pollution control chemically such as supercritical water oxidation, electrochemical method,semiconductor photo-catalytic oxidation,photoelectro-catalytic process and ultrasonic air oxidation process were introduced.At the same time,basic principles,characteristics,research progresses and application prospect were also reviewed.It is pointed out that conformation of a new type reaction system basing on different advantages from various technologies combined with needs of actual application would be made an ultimate breakthrough for advanced oxidation process.

Abstract:Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO), as a new and highly effective technique for waste disposal attributing to the special nature of water in the supercritical state, has significant advantages of disposing of sewage and industrial sludge which contain dissolved organic matters (DOM) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This paper summarized the progress in basic principles of SCWO, including free radicals reaction as same as wet air oxidation, internal combustion by thermal flames, etc. Research progress on treatment of different kinds of sludge by SCWO at domestic and abroad were reviewed, and main influence factors such as reaction temperature, systematic pressure, reaction time, catalyst, oxidant and co-oxidant, were concluded systematically. Applications of SCWO for sludge treatment in pilot scale and commercial full scale, in USA, Ireland, Sweden and China were introduced in details including its technological process, technical parameters and investment/operation cost. Based on the analysis of its existing disadvantages and problems, referring to salt precipitation, corrosion, high energy consumption and difficult operation of equipment, the future research direction for SCWO were also pointed out.

Abstract:Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) has been regarded as a new and efficient technology for the harmless treatment and energy utilization of organic wastes, resulting in the quickly homogeneous oxidation between organics and oxidizers and the former being wholly degraded into small environment-friendly green molecules such as H2O and N2 and inorganic salts. This paper systematically analyzed the influencing behavior and mechanisms of the reaction factors, such as temperature, pressure, residence time, oxidant type, oxidation coefficient, and the concentration and pH values of the raw material, on the treatment effect of organic wastes. For most organic wastes, the SCWO conditions at 550 degrees C with a residence time of 1min and an oxidation coefficient of 100% can meet the removal rate of more than 99%. To further enhance the degradation rate of organics, the principles, implementation cases, and related equipment components of general enhancement technologies of supercritical water oxidation were discussed, such as fractional oxygen injection, auxiliary fuel co-oxidation, and hydrothermal flame-assisted degradation. This paper proposes a novel supercritical flame-assisted oxidation process in which the reactor performs preheating, corrosion protection, and desalination functions. The use of additive-enhanced oxidation, segmented oxidation, and supercritical hydrothermal flame-assisted oxidation has achieved good results in the complicated treatment process of brutal degradation of organic matter.

Abstract:Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is a promising wastewater treatment technology owing to its various advantages such as rapid reactions and non-polluting products. However, problems like corrosion and salt decomposition set obstacles to its commercialization. To address these problems, researchers have been developing the optimal reactor design and strengthening measures based on sufficient understandings of the degradation kinetics. The essence of the SCWO process and the roles of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide are summarized in this work. Then, the research status and progress of empirical models, semi-empirical models, and detailed chemical kinetic models (DCKMs) are systematically reviewed. Additionally, this paper is the first to summarize the research progress of quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics simulation. The challenge and further development of kinetics models for the optimization of reactors and the directional transformation of pollutants are pointed out.

Abstract:The characteristics of supercitical (subcritical) water oxidilion are introduced. The application of supercritical (subcritical) water oxidation at home and abroad in the resource recycling of solid waste, such as waste macromolecular material, chemical reaction residues and sludge is reviewed. The prospect and development tendency of supercritical (subcritical) water oxidation is discussed in the following fields: degrading waste of synthetic macromolecular material to make fuel or chemical material; hydrolyzing natural macromolecular material, such as cellulose, chitin, fish and food processing byproducts, to gain glucose, glycosamine, amino acid, and so on; gasifying organic solid waste to get hydrogen energy; decomposing chemical reaction residues to reclaim intermediates product; catalyzing and decomposing activated sludge to reclaim petrochemicals; treating toxic and harmful waste, etc.

Abstract:Because of the fascinating characteristics of water at supercritical conditions,supercritical water oxidation(SCWO) is an effective method for the treatment of organic wastes and has been attracting worldwide attention.During the process,the organic compounds react completely with the oxidant in a singlephase reaction forming CO2 and H2O,and the reaction time seldom exceeds some minutes.Although some commercial pilot plant facilities have been set up and used to treat chemical wastewater by SCWO,the process has not become a current wastewater treatment technology due to the limitation by two main problems encountered in such a process: corrosion and salt-plugging.In order to overcome these two drawbacks,a number of technical innovations and reactor designs are developed.This article presented the progress of SCWO technology for solving corrosion and salt-plugging in such a process,and addresses some current issues relating to the process.

Abstract:Ethanol wastewater treated by supercritical water oxidation technique is studied in intermittent experimental equipment. The results show the pressure of supercritical water influences the oxidation degree for ethanol wastewater: the influence decreases with the pressure's increase. Ethanol removal rate can be improved with increasing the reaction time and the residence time. The best technologic terms as followed: pressure 30MPa、temperature 600℃ and retention time 30s.

Abstract:Advanced oxidation processes(AOPs),as new technologies in water treatment fields,are very popular in recent years.Especially,AOPS have the advantage in the treatment of difficultly degraded organics.The research process and mechanism for water treatment by advanced oxidation processes,such as Fenton and technologies on Fenton,photochemical oxidation and photocatalysis oxidation,ozone oxidation,electrochemical oxidation,wet air oxidation and catalytic wet air oxidation,supercritical water oxidation and supercritical catalytic water oxidation,are summarized in this paper.How to produce more ·OH radicals is one of the most radical issues in AOPs.Comprehensive analysis manifests that researching the oxidants of higher cost-efficient as well as the catalysts of more catalytic activity and sustainable are the main development trend in AOPs.In addition,it is necessary that technologies which combine AOPs and sound,light,electricity,magnet and so on will further not only enhance wastewater removal but also expand its space for research in wastewater fields.

Abstract:Ozone was an excellent disinfectant and had been applied in water disinfection for a century.It could inactivate microorganisms such as protozoa efficiently,which were very resistant to conventional disinfectants due to its high oxidation efficiency.The mechanisms of the combined technologies of O3,UV,H2O2 and TiO2 as well as its application in water treatment are investigated.The developmental direction of ozonation technique in the future is also presented at the end.

Abstract:This paper presents the research on coking wastewater treatment by using supercritical water oxidation technology.The result shows that the equipment structure of supercritical water treatment is simple and small in size.After treatment,the ammonia nitrogen,COD and chroma in water is in accordance with or lower than the first-order of national discharge standard.There is no secondary pollution by the technology and it is a rather perfect method to treat coking wastewater.

Abstract:Advanced oxidation processes has been widely used in the treatment of refractory industrial wastewater,but each process has its drawbacks.Ultrasound was combined with other advanced oxidation processes due to the ultrasonic radiation on the solution can cause cavitation effect.Thus,ultrasound technology not only enhanced other processes by its cavitation effect but also overcame their own defects,which resulted in synergistic effect and higher removal rate of organic pollutants,so ultrasonic-advanced oxidation combined processes for the treatment of wastewater have bcen more and more concerned by the domestic and foreign scholars.In this article,the basic principles of combination of ultrasonic irradiation with several advanced oxidation processes,such as Fenton reagent oxidation,ozone oxidation,photocatalytic oxidation and electrochemical oxidation,were introduced.The progress on the application of these combined processes in wastewater treatment was briefly reviewed,and the development prospects of ultrasonic-advanced oxidation combined processes were discussed.

Abstract:The principles, characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of the various most practical advanced oxidation technologies recently, for example, Fenton oxidation, catalytic ozone oxidation, photocatalytic oxidation, electrolytic catalytic oxidation, wet air oxidation and catalytic wet air oxidation, supercritical water oxidation, and supersonic oxidation, were reviewed and the problems existing in various advanced oxidation technologies and the development tendency in the further were analyzed. It is considered that the metal-catalyzed ozone oxidation is an economic and highly efficient oxidation technology combining the advantages of both ozone’s strong oxidation ability and metal catalyzer’ easy manufacturing, high durability, no need of adding other reagents, and low operation cost, showing a good development prospect in the future.
