Abstract:Extracts of Cortinarius purpurascens fruit bodies, an edible fungus (Zimo in Chinese) found mainly in the Ho-lan Mountains of Inner Mongolia Alashan League and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, exhibited DPPH and ·OH radical scavenging activity, and protected DNA against peroxyl radical (ROO·)-induced damage.Highest DPPH and ·OH radical-scavenging activities (88.3% and 96.8%, respectively) were recorded with 0.5 mg/mL concentrations of an ethyl acetate soluble fraction, which also provided significant protection against ROO·-induced DNA damage. Moreover, lower concentrations (0.05-0.15 mg/mL) of this fraction significantly (P<0.01) decreased the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in t-butyl hydroperoxide-treated HepG2 cells.
