Abstract:Primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC) is an extremely rare malignancy of the obstetrics and gynecology, accounting for about 0.14%-1.8% in the genital tract malignancy. The age peak of incidence is between 40-65 years, and the average morbidity age is 55 years. Epidemiological studies have shown the incidence of PFTC is 3.6/1 000 000 every year. Etiology and pathogenesis is still unclear. The PFTC triads are vaginal discharge, abdominal pain and pelvic mass. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult, mostly based on pathologic diagnosis, imaging examinations and tumor markers detection can assist the diagnosis. The treatment methods are similar to epithelial ovarian cancer, mainly including tumor reductive surgery and platinum based chemotherapy regimens. The prognostic factors includes residual tumor diameter size, disease stage, degree of tumor differentiation and chemotherapy sensitivity etc, current research shows PFTC prognosis is worse than the same stage epithelial ovarian cancer or other primary gynecologic malignancies, the 5-year survival rate was between 22%-57%. This article summarized the research progress on fallopian tube carcinoma recently.
